Caring for your Children
MEDICAL NEEDS
School has a small room for first aid treatment and there are a number of staff trained in First Aid. If your child has an accident at school, a letter will be sent home. In the event of a serious accident, we will attempt to contact you. We ask parents to make sure that school has current contact numbers at all times.
If your child needs regular medication (e.g. asthma inhaler) please fill in a form giving us details in line with local health authority guidance. We are only allowed to administer medication that is prescribed by a doctor. There are restrictions so please check with the school office or the headteacher for further guidance.
PASTORAL CARE
Teachers are responsible for the daily care of the pupils in their class and will bring any concerns they may have to the attention of the headteacher. We hope parents will share any concerns they may have with their child’s class teacher. School may be able to refer parents for help and advice, if they so wish.
CHILD ABUSE
The education authority requires Headteachers to report any suspected cases of child abuse. This includes non-accidental injury, severe neglect, emotional abuse and / or sexual abuse.
In all cases, school will act in the best interests of the pupil. If there are grounds for suspicion the school will report its concerns as we believe “it is better to be safe than sorry.” However, this does mean that Headteachers may upset some parents by these actions, especially if the suspicions prove to be unfounded. We hope that parents will understand the delicate nature of this responsibility.
BEHAVIOUR / DISCIPLINE
The school has a code of conduct which underlies all aspects of school life. It seeks to promote a positive learning environment and to enable the school to fulfil its aims. Together with our behaviour policy, it makes clear the responsibilities of school, pupils and parents. All parents are given a copy of this policy.
We expect pupils to be polite and courteous showing respect for other people. We also expect them to respect the property of school and that of other people. We aim to help pupils understand the difference between right and wrong and what is acceptable behaviour. We will not tolerate bullying in any form.
School supports the Peterborough City Councils' statement of policy on "Race Relations and Education".
