Lessons begin at 9.00am prompt. We therefore open school at 8.50 am in order that all pupils are ready to start lessons at 9.00am. Pupils and parents are welcome to wait in the playgrounds until the doors open. Parents are reminded that their children are in their care until the doors open and children should not wait in the playground unsupervised or too early. Children are released into their respective playgrounds at the end of the school day.

ABSENCES

It is expected that all Key Stage 1 (Infant) children will be brought to school by a responsible adult. School should be informed of any Key Stage Two (Junior) children regularly travelling to school alone. If for any reason your child will either not be at school or be late for registration, it is important that you inform the school by telephone at the earliest opportunity.

If your child is absent from school please ring the school office at the start of the day. If the absence is planned, it is for the headteacher to decide whether the absence can be authorised. We realise that pupils get ill from time to time and these absences are authorised but time out from school for things such as shopping trips cannot be authorised. The school does not approve of pupils taking family holidays during term time.

*All absences and late arrivals are monitored by the headteacher and the L.A.

TAKING HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME

The Department for Children, Schools and Families regards the taking of holidays during school time as an exception and not a rule. Therefore parents should do all they can to avoid holidays in school time.

Before booking a holiday parents should seek permission from the headteacher. It is the role of the headteacher to decide whether the holiday can be authorised.

In coming to that decision the following information will be taken into account:

  • The age of the child
  • The time of year (this should not be at the start of a new year or near SATs and not tagged on to school holiday breaks.
  • The nature of the trip and steps that have been taken to avoid taking the child out of school during term time.
  • The overall attendance pattern of the child.
  • Whether a request was made the previous school year. (An exception and not a regular occurrence).
