🌸 Spring Term Learning 🌸

Welcome to our Reception class Spring Term page! This term is full of exciting learning opportunities as we continue to build confidence, curiosity, and independence across all areas of the curriculum.

📖 Literacy

In Literacy, we will be exploring the story Let’s All Creep Through Crocodile Creek by Jonny Lambert. The children will develop their comprehension skills by discussing the story, thinking carefully about the sequence of events, and creating their own story maps.

In phonics, we will continue to practise single-letter spellings before moving on to words with more complex structures. This will include:

  • CVCC words such as lamp

  • CCVC words such as drip

🔢 Maths

In Maths, children will continue to develop their subitising and counting skills and explore the composition of numbers within and beyond 5. They will:

  • Identify when two sets are equal or unequal

  • Connect equal groups to doubling

  • Begin to link quantities to numerals

We will also explore mass and capacity through practical, hands-on activities.

🌍 Wider Curriculum

In our wider learning, we will be exploring and comparing hot and cold countries. Children will learn about different types of weather and the animals that live in these environments.

🤝 PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development)

In PSED, we will be focusing on managing challenge and developing cooperation skills through group games and shared activities.

🤸 PE

In PE, the children will be learning gymnastics, developing balance, coordination, and confidence in movement.

✨ RE

In RE, we will be exploring special places of worship. The children will learn about why these places are important and will even be making special visits to see some of them in person.
