Autumn Term 2 - Key Information
PE will be on a Tuesday. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit including trainers, white t-shirt and black bottoms. Please make sure the children have a jumper/coat they can wear during PE as we will be outside throughout the year.
Badgers will be doing Forest School this half - term on Wednesday morning. Please ensure your children have appropriate clothing, including a coat and change of footwear. Be aware that children will be in the forest in all weather conditions so will be likely to get muddy. Forest school will begin on Wednesday November 5th.
If your child wears earrings, these need to be removed for PE, Forest School and swimming. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Reading books will be collected in on a Monday for a book change and handed back on a Tuesday. Please ensure your children bring in their reading folders on that day in order that books can be changed.
Curriculum:
English:
This term we will be writing a narrative to entertain as we explore the story 'Nibbles The Monster'. The children will write an adventure story based on the this book. We will also be exploring a poetry anthology called 'There Are No Such Things As Monsters.'
We will also continue to work hard on our handwriting and spelling following the Year 1 spelling lists and the Soundswrite phonics scheme.
Geography:
In geography we will be looking at where we live and identifying physical and human geographical features.
PSHE:
In this subject we will be looking at health and wellbeing. The children will learn to name and recognise different emotions and what they can do to help themselves when emotions are challenging.
Music:
The theme for this terms music lessons is 'Fairytale Patterns' where the children will learn all about rhythm within pieces of music.
ART:
Children will be creating art by making different types of marks and lines. They will also learn about the artist Bridget Riley and look at some of her work.
Maths
This term children will focus on:
- Shape
- Addition and subtraction (within 10)
Children will regularly be able to use problem solving and reasoning skills. We will also be regularly recapping and pratice fluency skills.
Science
In science we will be continuing the topic 'animals including humans'. The focus will turn to humans and will will learn to name different parts of the body. We will also look at the seasonal changes that occur as we move from autumn into winter.
Computing
Children will learn how to use computer programs to draw and paint. This will link to the work they are doing during their art topic.
RE
Our topic this term asks the question 'What do Christians believe God is like?' and explores how these beliefs impact how Christians live their lives.
PE
In PE we will be looking at fitness and ball skills.

Badgers will be swimming this half - term on Wednesday morning. Please ensure your children have appropriate swimming kit, including a swimming hat. Swimming hats can be purchased from the office if needed. If you would like your child to wear goggles for swimming lessons please put this in writing at the start of the term. Swimming will begin on Wednesday September 10th. We will change to Forest School after the October half- term.

This term we will be writing a narrative to entertain as we explore the story 'Lost and Found' written by Oliver Jeffers. The children will write an adventure story based on the tale of a little boy helping a lost animal. We will also be exploring a poetry unit that looks at Sea Songs as well as listening to a range of texts during story time such as 'The Wonkey Donkey' by Craig Smith and 'I am Enough' by Grace Byers.
We will also continue to work hard on our handwriting and spelling following the Year 1 spelling lists and the Soundswrite phonics scheme.
History:
In history we are studying the history of shopping. The children will be looking at the way we shop now and how it differed in the past. We will also be exploring how shops have changed over time.
PSHE:
In this subject we will be looking at family and relationships. The children will learn the importance of strong relationships within your family and friendship groups and how to develop and nurture those relationships.
Music:
This term we will be exploring keeping the pulse together through music and movement, by exploring their favourite things.
DT:
Children will be exploring structures and making a windmill. When thinking about the design of their windmill they will need to meet the design criteria.
Maths
This term children will focus on:
- Place value (within in 10)
- Addition and subtraction (within 10)
Children will regularly be able to use problem solving and reasoning skills. We will also be regularly recapping and pratice fluency skills.
Science
In science we will be looking at the topic 'animals including humans'. Children will be able to identify what herbivores, carnivores and omnivores eat. They will also look at what characteristics mammals, amphibians, fish, reptiles, birds have.
Computing
Children will look at technology around us. They will be able to talk about different technology within school and they will understand how to use it responsibly.
RE
Our topic this term is Who am I? What does it mean to belong? We will look at how religious people show that they belong. How Christians and Muslims welcome babies and how people show that they belong to each other.
PE
In PE we will be looking at fitness and ball skills.
