Welcome to Year 4 – Autumn 2 Learning Journey 🍂

We are looking forward to starting another engaging and exciting first half-term in Year 4! Here's a glimpse into what your child will be learning this half term:

Curriculum Overview

English ✍️📖
For our poetry unit, we will be writing a group list poem based on ‘The Lost Lost-Property Office’ by Roger McGough. Then in our writing unit, we will be focusing on the book 'Greek Myths' by Jean Menzies in order to create a mini-book of their own Odyssey adventure.

Maths ➕➖

We will be focusing on area and multiplication and division. 

Science 🪨🦴

In our next unit, we will be learning about 'Sound' and how it travels through different materials through observations and experiments. 

Geography🌍🌦️

In Geography, we will be exploring climate and weather and comparing the UK to other countries. 

D&T🛠️⚙️

In Design and Technology, the children will be learning how to design and build their own pavilions, exploring structure, stability, and creativity.

Music 🎶🥁
In this unit, the children will explore tuned percussion instruments from the Caribbean, learning about rhythm, melody and how different instruments create unique sounds.

Computing 💻🎞

In computing, we will be focusing on audio production. We will be capturing and editing audio to produce a podcast, ensuring thar copyright is considered. 

French 🇫🇷🗣️
In French, we begin by recapping our french phonetics to support us in our focus topics 'presenting myself' and 'my family'.

RE ✝️🌍

In RE, we will be learning about Hindu beliefs and exploring what Hindus believe God is like.

PE 🗺️🏃

For this half term, we will be learning the ball skills needed to play netball. 

PSHE 🧠💬

In PSHE, we will be learning about health and wellbeing, including how to take care of our bodies and minds.

Additional Information for Parents ℹ️👪

🏊 Swimming - Every Tuesday 

Please send your child to school with the correct swimming kit every Tuesday.

Swimming Kit includes:

• Swimming costume/trunks
• Towel
• Goggles
• Swimming hat

Similarly to PE, no earrings are to be worn. 

🏃‍♂️ PE – Every Thursday
Please send your child to school with their full PE kit every Thursday.
PE Kit includes:

• White t-shirt
• Black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms
• Appropriate footwear (trainers)
  
  Important: No earrings are allowed during PE sessions. Children must be able to remove them independently as staff cannot assist and tape is no longer permitted. Children unable to remove their earrings will not be able to take part. Long hair must be tied up for all lessons.

🌳 For Meerkats, Forest School will take place in Spring 2, so no need to worry about this yet either.

Reminders 📝

• 🧴 Water Bottles: Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school every day.
• 🧥 Label Everything: Label all clothing so that lost items can be returned promptly.
