Happy New Year! We are looking forward to starting another engaging and exciting first half-term in Year 4! Here's a glimpse into what your child will be learning this half-term:
Curriculum Overview
English βοΈπ
In English, we will explore powerful poetry through The Roman Centurion’s Song by Rudyard Kipling, creating our own cinquain poems, before using Our Tower by Joseph Coelho as inspiration to write an exciting adventure in the form of a journal recount.
Maths ββ
In maths, we will be strengthening our multiplication and division skills, exploring length and perimeter through practical problem-solving, and developing a secure understanding of fractions.
Science πͺ¨π¦΄
In science, we will be investigating electricity, learning how circuits work, identifying electrical components, and exploring how electricity is used safely in everyday life.
History ποΈ πΊ βοΈ
In history, we will be journeying back in time to explore Ancient Rome and Roman Britain, discovering powerful emperors, fearsome soldiers and how the Romans changed life in Britain forever.
Art π¨ποΈ
In art, we will explore painting and mixed media, experimenting with light and dark to create mood, contrast and atmosphere in their artwork.
Music πΆπ₯
In music, we will be exploring changes in pitch, tempo and dynamics, learning how these elements affect the mood and expression of a piece of music.
Computing π»π
In computing, we will be using a text-based programming language to explore repetition and count-controlled loops, creating patterns and shapes through code.
French π«π·π£οΈ
In French, we will learn to communicate in the context of At the Tea Room, developing our vocabulary and confidence through speaking, listening and role-play activities.
RE βοΈπ
In RE, we will explore Hindu beliefs about God and discover what it means to be a Hindu in Britain today, developing understanding and respect for different faiths and cultures.
PE πΊοΈπ
In PE, children will take part in outdoor adventure and orienteering activities, developing teamwork, problem-solving skills and confidence in navigating their environment.
PSHE π§ π¬
In PSHE, we will be learning about safety and the changing body, developing understanding of personal wellbeing, healthy relationships and how to keep themselves safe.
Additional Information for Parents βΉοΈπͺ
π³ Forest school – Every Tuesday
Please send your child to school with their full Forest school kit every Tuesday.
Forest school kit includes:
- Waterproof clothing
- Coat
- Change of footwear
As the weather continues to be cold, and the children will be in the forest in all weather conditions, it is essential that they have lots of layers and practical items to ensure they stay safe, warm, and dry.
πβοΈ PE – Every Thursday
Please send your child to school with their full PE kit every Thursday.
PE Kit includes:
- White t-shirt
- Black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms
- Appropriate footwear (trainers)
Important: No earrings are allowed during PE and Forest school sessions. Children must be able to remove them independently as staff cannot assist and tape is no longer permitted. Children unable to remove their earrings will not be able to take part. Long hair must be tied up for all lessons.
Reminders π
- π§΄ Water Bottles: Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school every day.
- π§₯ Label Everything: Label all clothing so that lost items can be returned promptly.
