Welcome to Early Years!

Meet your Early Years team; Mrs Mills, Mrs Finch, Mrs Thorpe, Miss Oliver, Mrs Butler, Mrs Sullivan, Mrs Dean and Mrs Stewart.
Autumn 2 Curriculum
This half term we will be exploring the traditional tale “The Three Little Pigs.” Children will learn to sequence the events of the story, talk about what happens at the beginning, middle and end, and describe the characters using simple vocabulary. We will also continue to develop early writing skills, with a focus on writing captions linked to the story.
In phonics, we will continue learning single letter spellings as we progress through Units 4–6. Children will practise recognising and forming letters accurately and blending sounds to read simple words.
In Maths, children will build on their previous experiences with number. This half term they will:
-
Develop their subitising and counting skills
-
Explore the composition of numbers within 5
-
Begin to compare sets of objects and use appropriate mathematical language of comparison
In PSED (Personal, Social & Emotional Development), our focus will be on special relationships, helping children recognise the important people in their lives and understand how we care for and value one another.
In Understanding the World, we will be learning about a range of special occasions, including Bonfire Night and the celebration of Christmas. In RE, children will explore the Christmas story and learn about the birth of Jesus.
In Art, children will explore mark making with a variety of materials, experimenting with tools, textures and techniques to express their ideas creatively.
Autumn 1 Curriculum
We begin our year with the topic of People Who Help Us. We will also talk about our families and think about the area we live in and what we see all around us. In phonics lessons, we explore sounds and letters as we begin to build words. In maths, we will be exploring numbers to 5 and thinking about the different ways we can see and make them. In English, we will learn the story of Peace at Last as well as enjoying a range of rhymes.
Swimming and Forest school lessons will take place on Thursdays.
Hedgehogs will be swimming and Squirrels will be doing Forest school.
