Year 3 - Sharks
Welcome back!
We are so excited to welcome you back on Wednesday 3rd September and cannot wait to get started on our learning journey together.
The adults in our classroom are: Miss West, Miss Stafford and Miss Hanson
Welcome to Year 3 – Autumn 1 Learning Journey π
We are excited to kick off an enriching and engaging first half-term in Year 3! Here's a glimpse into what your child will be learning this half term:
Curriculum Overview
English βοΈπ
We’ll be diving into Seal Surfer by Michael Foreman, using this beautiful text to inspire character-based letter writing. In reading, we’ll explore a variety of engaging texts that link to other areas of our exciting curriculum. Children will also continue to refine and improve their handwriting throughout the term.
Maths ββ
Our focus will be on developing a strong understanding of place value and building confidence with addition and subtraction. Daily Number Sense sessions will support children in strengthening their number bonds and fluency.
Science πͺ¨π¦΄
It’s time to put on our geologists’ caps as we delve into the world of rocks and fossils! We’ll investigate their fascinating properties and learn how they form an important part of our Earth’s history.
History πΊπ
We’ll travel back in time to discover life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age - exploring how early humans lived, worked and thrived.
Art & Design Technology π¨π
In Art, children will be enhancing their drawing skills while studying the work of various artists. In Design and Technology, we’ll be learning about cooking and nutrition—culminating in the creation of a tasty, seasonal fruit salad!
Music πΆπ₯
Our music lessons will introduce children to tuned percussion instruments such as the glockenspiel, and we’ll begin exploring the expressive world of ballads.
Computing π»ποΈ
This term includes two exciting units:
- Connecting Computers – learning how digital devices interact via inputs, processes, and outputs, and how they form networks.
- Stop-frame Animation – capturing and editing still images to create animations that tell a story.
French π«π·π£οΈ
Allez! We’re thrilled to begin French lessons, starting with phonics to support accurate pronunciation and early language skills.
RE βοΈπ
Our big question this term is: What do Christians learn from the Creation Story? Children will explore key ideas and reflect on their significance.
PE πΊοΈπ
We’ll be building teamwork and map-reading skills in orienteering as children learn to navigate using different strategies. Outdoor adventures, here we come!
PSHE π§ π¬
Our focus in PSHE will be on family and relationships, helping children to understand and appreciate different family structures and the importance of healthy connections.
Additional Information for Parents βΉοΈπͺ
Forest School and Swimming will take place across the year. However, each class will now have two half terms of Forest School and one half term of Swimming, alongside three half terms of Computing.
In Autumn 1, Sharks will be doing Computing, so no Forest School or Swimming this half term.
A reminder that children need earrings removed and hair tied back for PE, swimming and Forest School.
πβοΈ PE – Every Wednesday
Please send your child to school wearing their full PE kit every Wednesday.
PE Kit includes:
- White t-shirt
- Black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms
- Appropriate footwear (trainers)
Important: No earrings are allowed during PE sessions. Children must be able to remove them independently as staff cannot assist and tape is no longer permitted. Children unable to remove their earrings will not be able to take part. Long hair must be tied up for all lessons.
π Swimming
Year 3 will begin swimming in the Spring term, so no need to worry about kit just yet!
Reminders π
- 𧴠Water Bottles: Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school every day.
- π§₯ Label Everything: Label all clothing so that lost items can be returned promptly.
- π Snacks & Tuck Shop: Year 3 children can now access the tuck shop during break times! Items must be ordered in the morning and cost no more than 30p. If your child prefers to bring their own snack, it must be healthy (e.g., fruit).
We’re very much looking forward to the year ahead and can’t wait to welcome you and your children into Year 3! π
