Welcome to Year 4! We’re looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!
Important Information for Parents โน๏ธ๐ช
๐โ๏ธ PE – Every Friday
Please send your child to school with their full PE kit every Friday.
PE Kit includes:
- White t-shirt
- Black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms
- Appropriate footwear (trainers)
Important: No earrings are allowed during PE sessions. Children must be able to remove them independently as staff cannot assist and tape is no longer permitted. Children unable to remove their earrings will not be able to take part. Long hair must be tied up for all lessons.

- ๐งด Water Bottles: Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school every day.
- ๐งฅ Label Everything: Label all clothing so that lost items can be returned promptly.
Here's a look at what Wombats will be learning during autumn 1:
๐ English
We'll begin by exploring poetry to write our own free verse narrative poems before moving on to Gorilla by Anthony Browne, using it as inspiration to write a fantasy story.
๐ Reading
Our class novel is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
๐ข Maths
We'll start with place value, before moving on to addition and subtraction. We'll also be practising our times tables every day.
โ๏ธ Handwriting
Daily Kinetic Letters lessons will continue to develop fluent, joined handwriting.
๐ฆท Science
Our topic is Animals Including Humans - learning about the digestive system, teeth and how to keep our bodies healthy.
๐๏ธ History
We will be discovering the fascinating world of Ancient Greece and its lasting impact on our lives today.
โช Religious Education
Our enquiry question will be: What is the Trinity?
๐จ Art
Our topic is Power Prints – developing our drawing skills through exciting print-inspired artwork.
๐ ๏ธ Design & Technology
We will be learning about structures and design and create our own pavilions – designing and building stable structures.
๐ต Music
We will be using body percussion and tuned percussion to create rainforest-inspired music.
๐ป Computing
Learning about the internet, the World Wide Web, and how to evaluate online information safely and critically.
French
Beginning with phonics before learning how to present ourselves in French.
๐ PSHE
Being Me in My World – exploring who we are, our responsibilities and how we belong within our school community.
๐ Physical Education
Our PE sessions will be every Friday afternoon.
All children will swim during the first two weeks of term:
- Meerkats: Friday 4th September
- Wombats: Friday 11th September
After their assessment, children who can swim 25 metres will take part in weekly orienteering lessons. Those who need further support will continue swimming each week to build their confidence and ability. You will be informed whether your child will participate in the swimming intervention after Friday 11th September. If you do not hear anything, please send your child to school with their full PE kit.
Please note, Year 4 will not be participating in Forest School until later on in the academic year.
