The Salvation Army- Christmas Present Appeal 2020

The Salvation Army- Christmas Present Appeal

You may be aware that in previous years we have supported the charity Samaritan’s Purse with their project ‘Operation Christmas Child’ to provide shoeboxes of presents to children in need all around the world. We made the decision last year that we would plan to support children who are in need more locally for Christmas 2020. This decision could not be more ‘right’ at this time where many are facing changes in job and financial circumstances and the need in Peterborough is great. For this reason, we have decided to support our local Salvation Army church and charity in providing presents for young people aged 0-18 in our city who otherwise would have very little.

The Salvation Army has already offered to support our school and its families. They will be providing food parcels to families with pupils receiving free school meals who require them for over the Christmas holiday period. This will also include some family sized meals cooked by their chef.  We would like to be able to give something in return for their generosity and the work they are doing in our community.

The Salvation Army is calling on Peterborough’s community to donate new toys to its Christmas appeal that will support families in need over the festive season. They’re expecting the number of people requesting support to be greater this year and are asking for people to help them share some hope this Christmas. Last year, they supported some 250 families with toys and food hampers and already we’ve started receiving requests for support ahead of Christmas.

There are a few ways that you can support this project:

  • The first is via The Salvation Army’s Amazon Wish List. It’s trickier to get out to shops at the moment so this might a quick and easy way for you to contribute. Visit the wish list via the link below.

Simply click the link, order your toy and select for it to be delivered directly to the Salvation Army.

  • The second way is to purchase the gift, leave it unwrapped and drop it off in our giving bins on your way into school (in the same way as we did for donating to the foodbank). Please bring donations of toys and gifts between Monday 23rd November and Tuesday 1st December.
  • Finally, if you would prefer to donate financially to this vital appeal, you can do that via the Salvation Army’s ‘JustGiving’ page via the link below.

The Salvation Army will sort and distribute the gifts to children and families in the area through their networks and via local groups and social services.

Your generosity in our foodbank collection was outstanding and we’re proud to be part of such a giving community. We hope that you will be able to contribute to this charity in a similar way. Your support is greatly appreciated.
