Autumn 2

 Update for Autumn 2

Foxes have forest school this term.  Please remember to bring a change of clothing and wellies boots/ spare shoes.

In this term, we will continue to build on our understanding of addition and subtraction. The children will explore different strategies for solving these problems, including counting on and back, using number lines, and applying their knowledge of number bonds. We will also delve into word problems to apply these skills in real-life situations. Practicing mental math and using manipulatives will be an integral part of our learning.

Our English curriculum will revolve around the delightful book "Nibbles" by Emma Yarlett. The children will engage with the story, explore the characters, and develop their reading and writing skills. They will write their own imaginative stories inspired by Nibbles and learn to use descriptive language to create vivid narratives. Reading comprehension activities will help them understand the book's themes and messages.

During this term, we will take a closer look at our local area. We will learn about the features that make our neighbourhood unique and how people interact with the environment. This could involve local walks, map-making, and discussions about the history and culture of our local community.

In our Science lessons, we will be diving into the fascinating world of animals, including humans. The children will learn about the different parts of the human body, their functions, and how to maintain good health. We will explore a variety of animals, their habitats, and how they adapt to their environments. Students will have opportunities for hands-on experiments and observations to deepen their understanding of the animal kingdom.

During Busy Learning time, the children will have the chance to explore a range of engaging and educational activities that promote independent learning and creativity. This will include activities related to our Maths, English, and Science topics. We will have dedicated areas for practical math activities, reading corners with Nibbles books, and science experiments to further support their learning.

Math games and puzzles to reinforce addition and subtraction skills.

Storytelling and role-play areas inspired by the characters in "Nibbles."

Science exploration stations with magnifying glasses, specimens, and anatomy models.

Art and craft activities related to animals and the human body.

As always, we encourage parents to support their child's learning by reading with them, practicing math at home, and discussing what they've learned in Science. Together, we can make this Autumn term an exciting and enriching experience.

We really enjoyed our visit from Daniel Thompson. He set us a challenge to preform one his poems.

Miss King Trainee Teacher

We're excited to welcome Miss King to our classroom for the next six weeks! Miss King is here as part of their teacher training program and will be working closely with us to gain valuable hands-on experience. We encourage our children and parents to extend a warm welcome and offer their support as Miss King embarks on this exciting journey. We believe this experience will not only be enriching for Miss King, but also for our students, who will benefit from their fresh perspective and enthusiasm. We look forward to a productive and collaborative time ahead, fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment together.

First few weeks in Foxes

We've had an amazing start to the school year, full of exciting adventures and learning experiences. In our art class, we've been busy exploring different art media and creating beautiful masterpieces. We've also taken a fascinating journey back in time as we learned about the history of shopping, discovering how it has changed over the years. One of our favorite moments was our local trip to the shop, where we got to see firsthand how a real shop operates and find out about goods and services. But it's not just about what's outside the classroom; we've been exploring our new school environment and making new friends along the way. It's been a fantastic first few weeks, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us!

Just a reminder Foxes are swimming until the October half term.  Please remember to bring swim hats and swim kit.

Gentle reminder to remove earrings on for Swimming and PE, as this can be a health and safety risk to your child.  Thank you.  Mrs Holvey.

Our first few weeks

πŸ‚ Welcome to Foxes Autumn Term Class Page! πŸ‚

We are excited to embark on a journey of learning and exploration in this year's Autumn Term. In our class, we will be diving into a variety of captivating topics that promise to engage, challenge, and inspire our young learners.

Our math curriculum for the term will focus on two key areas: Place Value and Shape. Through interactive activities and hands-on experiences, pupils will develop a solid understanding of numbers and their positions, as well as delve into the intriguing world of shapes and their properties.

In English, we will be captivated by the enchanting realm of Traditional Tales. The children will immerse themselves in timeless stories, learning about different cultures and discovering the rich tapestry of narratives that have been passed down through generations. Additionally, we will explore the book  "Lost and Found,"  by Oliver Jeffers honing our reading and writing skills through creative and reflective activities.

Our history lessons will take us on a journey through time to explore the fascinating history of shopping. From barter systems to modern retail, The children will gain insight into the evolution of commerce and its impact on societies.

In Religious Education, we will ponder the question, "Who am I and where do I belong?" as we engage in thoughtful discussions about identity, belonging, and the values that shape us.

In the Art, students will unleash their creativity by exploring the theme of lines. Through various artistic mediums, they will experiment with different types of lines, learning how to convey emotions, movement, and depth in their artwork.

Physical Education: Of course, we won't forget the importance of physical activity! The children will have the chance to participate in  "Pirate Fitness" sessions, where we'll engage in playful games to keep our bodies active and healthy.  PE will take place on a Friday; please remember to send your child in with a labelled PE kit consisting of a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts/joggers and a pair of trainers.

We will be swimming and attending Forest School on Thursday. Please send your son/daughter to school with a labelled swimming kit, including a swimming hat and appropriate costume. Forest School can get very muddy! Children must bring a pair of wellies or spare shoes that you don't mind getting messy for them to wear during this time. We will be outside during all winds and weathers so a warm, waterproof coat is essential!

Please can I remind you that all items of property should be clearly labelled including the children's water bottles.

We are thrilled to embark on this educational journey together, and we look forward to a term filled with growth, discovery, and camaraderie. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Here's to a fantastic Autumn Term!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Holvey
