PE: Tuesdays

We will update this section with any changes to the timetable or planned events.

Keep coming back so you keep up to date with the Cool Koalas!

Our topic for the first half of the Summer Term is 'Where's my Treasure?' We will be learning about famous pirates and explorers in History and we will be thinking about the continents and oceans as we plan our own voyages around the world in Geography. Our Science learning will be focussed on growing plants. We are linking our English work to our topic and learning pirate poems, studying the story 'The Night Pirates and writing an information text on an explorer. In maths, we will be revisiting all areas to deepen and extend our learning, with a focus on problem solving. Throughout our learning we will have our thinking hats on and we will be using thinkers keys to unlock deep thinking and learning. So ahoy me hearties! Welcome aboard The Learning Galleon, docked in Year 2 for a half term!

Today we did concrete learning in Maths about Venn diagrams. First we sorted ourselves and then we sorted shapes!

This week in Koala Class we have been busy getting ready for TLCS. We have done lots of science learning- ask us about the investigation we did on Thursday! We have been continuing our unit on addition and subtraction and are applying our skills to solve problems. In English, we have been working on a story about a zebra and a baboon...ask us what happened to them at the end!

What a busy week in Koala Class!

Wow Day in Koalas! We all dressed up as animals (it was a zoo in our classroom today!) to launch our new topic. Thank you for the amazing costumes! We had many parents, family and friends join us for the first hour when we learned about animal classes and did some crafty activities.

Welcome back to the spring term in Koala Class! Our topic the term is called 'Who Rules the Animal Kingdom?" We will be finding out about animals from around the world, including a focus on Africa and Antarctica. We will look at food chains and find out about lifecycles of animals. Our English learning links in as our first book is  Rumble in the Jungle, then a poem called 5 Little Bats. After that we will be looking at writing non-chronological reports and explanations based on our learning in topic.

Our Wow Day is the first day back- Tuesday 5th January. We have invited parents to join us from 9.30-10.30 to explore our first learning experiences in our new topic.

It is also an opportunity to come dressed as an animal! I will be a bat! What will you be?!

Our parent cafe afternoon was enjoyed by all! We heard the story of The Snowman and the Snowdog and talked about the powerful verbs the author used. Then we made our own springy snowman!

We had a lovely afternoon developing our colour mixing skills. Ask us about primary colours, and how to make green, purple and orange!

Today we did concrete learning in maths. We thought about the question 'How do we know how long something is?' and then we investigated the lengths of ribbon that Santa has in his workshop!

T'was the Night Before Jesus' Birth...the Key Stage 1 Christmas Performance!

4th December: Christingle making in Year 2!

Look at our gorgeous Great Fire of London display! We created the artwork using marbling. This week we finished our houses from a 1666 London street.

We have drawn a story s for Rainbow Bird today and learned the story with actions! Ask us to tell you the story!

Our new focus text in English is Rainbow Bird. We are reading it bit by bit and today we read about mean old Crocodile Man and poor Bird Woman. Here are some videos of us in role, having a converstation to help us write.

We have been learning about anti-bullying this week. We have learned the different ways people can bully and the roles people take in bullying behaviour. We all want to be defenders! We have been finding out about cotton wool words and sandpaper words, so we know how to be kind to everyone; always. This is the best way to banish bullying forever. Here are some photos of us doing role play about the roles people take in bullying situations.

Koalas supporting Children in Need! We might have been in our PJs, but we didn't snooze through our learning today!

Having fun practising spelling plural nouns in a game of Scoot!

We have been writing poems about Story Land! Ask us to tell you about similes, adjectives, alliteration and personification!

Today we went on a village walk to see map symbols in real life. We were super smart as we spotted mistakes on our map! We also designed our own map symbols for other buildings in the village.

Our learning question in RE this half term is Who I'm Jesus? We were really lucky today to have Mr Hurst visit year 2 to talk to us about Jesusand what he means to Christians.

On Friday Koalas and Mrs Delgado created this gorgeous display to show the story of how Jesus called his disciples to him.

We are having a Great Eye Bake Off! Mrs Drew has asked us to design and bake a new flavoured bread to serve at lunchtimes. So we did some research! We tasted different flavour breads (cheese, tomato, garlic and honey). Ask us which was our favourite!

We have been learning about shapes this week. Here are some shape pizzas that have been served up! What shapes can you see?

What a fab afternoon we had in Year 2! Our school cook, Mrs Drew, very kindly taught us how to make bread, then helped us to make our own small rolls. We learned about the important ingredients needed for the perfect loaf and the skills we need to be brilliant bakers! We made sure we turned off the ovens...we didn't want to end up like Thomas Farriner!

We used the zone of relevance for the first time today! So proud of my Koalas! From Mrs B.

Can you use the story map to tell the story of Toby and the Great Fire of London?

Remember our promises to be a Cracking Koala!

Who will be the first on our Wow Wall?

Look at us writing on our first day back!

Can you have a go at the Phonics Challenge?

Who will you read with?
