Penguins - Year 3

Remote learning w/c 28.06

Attached below is the timetable that we will be following next week. Each day, we will upload the learning tasks on here and also on Tapestry. Zoom sessions will be held daily at 9:30, 11:00 and 13:30, details for this have been emailed out.

PE - Wednesday

For PE on Wednesday, there won't be a zoom session but instead, you have a special challenge to complete!

I would like you to create a PE based game that I can play on Saturday afternoon to pass the time whilst we aren't able to go out. You will need to practice the game yourself to make sure that it works and is something that I can do without needing another person to play the game with. It would also be super if you could upload some videos or photos so that I can clearly understand the rules of the game!

Equipment that I have at home:
-Skipping rope
-Football
-Tennis bat and balls

Skills that you could include:
-Throwing and catching
-Skipping
-Bowling a ball
-Athletics skills
-Gymnastics- rolls, jumps and turns

I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Miss Collins :-)

What are we learning this year?

Welcome to Year 3, Penguins!

I hope that you have had a fantastic summer holiday and are well rested ready for the exciting year ahead. I have been busy preparing the classroom and planning lots of fun and exciting lessons that I know you will enjoy.

Useful information

- Mrs Hobbs will be our teaching assistant throughout the week.

-PE day is on Wednesday and this half term we will start with Gymnastics. On PE days, please could you ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit, our first PE day will be the 16th September.

-Homework will be set online via Times Tables Rockstars and Spelling Shed, new logins for these will be sent

out in the first couple of weeks back.

- Mondays will be our ‘Check and Change’ day for all reading books. Children will now only be allowed to change their reading books on a Monday. This is so that we can keep track of any books that have been returned to school and need to be quarantined before they can go back on our shelves. If your child has finished reading their book before a Monday, please read the book again at home as this will support your child’s reading fluency and understanding of the text.

-Your child will have two separate reading books – one to keep at home and one to keep at school. A colour book-banded book, that is appropriate for their reading level, will go home with your child to read on a Monday. In class, children will have either a colour-banded book or a book from the class book corner, to read both individually and with staff in school.

Autumn 1 learning

In English, we will be looking at the text 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo as our stimulus for writing. We are going to be writing a set of instructions all about how to look after an animal.

Our Maths learning will begin with Place Value. Children will be working with three digit numbers and ensuring they understand their values. We will then move on to developing our addition and subtraction skills using mental methods and written methods.

In our Science topic, we will be studying Rocks and Fossils and this will involve developing an understanding all about how rocks and fossils are formed.

Our History learning focuses on The Stone Age to Iron Age. We will discover what it was live in prehistoric times for the first humans in Britain. We will look at how life evolved and changed throughout this era.

In RE, we will be looking at what Christians learn from the creation story. In MFL, we will be learning French, starting with basic greetings and conversation skills. In our PSHE sessions, we will learn about rules in different areas of life.

I will be updating the class page regularly, so please do keep checking back to see what your children have been up to in school.

I am available before and after school if you need to talk to me so please do not hesitate to do so. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all. :)
