Penguins - Year 3

History Spring 1

In History we have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We learnt how to write out names in hieroglyphics

French Spring 1

In French, we have been learning how to say and spell different musical instruments.

Science Spring 1

In Science, we have been investigating light. We have created different experiments to see how light travels and how it bounces off objects. After half term, we will be investigating shadows!

DT Spring 1

In DT this half term, we have created pouches to hold microbits. We programmed an online microbit to create a safety harness for when we are riding our bicycles in the dark.

Spring Term 1

Welcome back Penguins! I hope you all had a magical Christmas and are ready for another fun filled term! Below are few key things about are learning over the next tern!

  • Forest school and swimming will now take place on a Tuesday. Pe is still on a Thursday.
  • In History, we will be learning all about the Ancient Egyptians!
  • We will be reading and writing about the story 'The Stone Age Boy' in English.
  • Over the whole of Spring we will be investigating lights and shadows in our Science lessons.
  • During DT we will be designing and making (hopefully) our own e-charms.

We are going to be very busy! I can't wait to see you back at school in January!

Art Autumn 2

In Art this term we have been looking at different ways of creating pictures. In week 4, we explored different textures before tearing up our paper to make new pictures, in a frottage style!

Science Autumn 2

This week in science we went on a magnetic hunt! In groups we went round the classroom and tested which objects were magnetic and which were non-magnetic.

Autumn 2

Mr Hockley was very kind and brought us in some Stone Age artefacts for us to look at!

Autumn 2 French

We have been learning how to say and spell different animals in French.

Science Autumn 2

We have been learning about different types of forces.

French - Autumn 1

Bonjour! We have started to learn some French. We know how to say hello, how are you and good bye. We also spent a lesson focusing on France and we looked on the map at all the different cities there are. It was interesting to find out which other countries speak French as well.

DT- Autumn 1

In DT, we have been thinking about healthy eating including seasonal fruit and vegetables. We started the topic off by making some very yummy fruit skewers!

Autumn 1 - Sneak peek into our learning!

Maths

We will begin the year by focusing on place value, followed by addition and subtraction. We will be using lots of practical resources to support our learning as well as using times table rockstarz to learn our 3,4 and 8 times tables.

History

In History, we will learn all about the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We already had a quick look at the Stone Age during move up day where we enjoyed creating Stone Age cave paintings using the same techniques they did all those years ago.

RE

We start the year off by looking at the Creation Story and what this means for Christians. we will be exploring the Big Frieze and discussing what is wonderful in our world.

PE

Our first PE topic will be orienteering. We will be using maps, coordinates and symbols to navigate ourselves around the school field.

Science

In Science, we will be looking at fossils and rocks. We learn how fossils are formed and also all about different types of rocks and what they are used for.

Doesn't that sound exciting?!

Welcome to Penguins!

What an action-packed year of fun learning we have ahead of us! Penguins are very lucky this year to have 3 adults supporting them during our learning! The class teacher is Miss Allen, Mrs Rennis will be the teaching assistant and Miss Wallis is joining us whilst she completes her teacher training.

Please see below for some key reminders and updates for you to ensure we start off the year smoothly:

  • The school day starts at 8.40am for Year 3. The school gates will be open at 8.30am, so please ensure your child is on the playground and ready to line up to enter the classroom when the whistle blows at 8.35am. Learning begins at 8.45am, so it is extremely important that your child is in school on time to ensure they don't miss any vital learning.
  • Now the children are in Year 3, they have access to Tuck Shop at break times. Children can choose to purchase a piece of toast, a crumpet, a cookie, a yogurt or a piece of fruit daily if they wish. Orders for this will be taken during registration time. Children must bring their own money for this.
  • Forest School and Swimming will be on a Friday afternoon this half term. Please ensure your child has both kits in school for the first week as we will be sorting groupings out on the day. A further update will be posted to inform you if Forest School kit or Swimming kit is needed moving forward. A reminder that children need long trousers and spare trainers/wellies for Forest School and a full swimming costume/swim shorts and a swim hat for swimming. If you would like your child to wear goggles, we need a signed permission note to inform us of this. Girls must have their hair tied back and earrings for all children must be removed.
  • PE will be on a Thursday afternoon this half term. Correct PE kit is needed moving forward into this academic year. Black or white shorts or jogging bottoms with no logos on them and a plain white t-shirt. If your child does not have correct kit, they will be given one to wear from school supplies.
  • Please ensure everything that belongs to your child is clearly labelled as to avoid missing items as the term progresses.
  • Reading records will be checked every Monday morning. Children are encouraged to read at least 5 times a week at home.

I can't wait to get started!  Please remember to check back here to see our super learning this year in Penguins!

See you in September!

Miss Allen
