Koalas - Year 2

Please have a look at Tapestry to see more of our learning!

Spelling 21.5.2021

This week we have been learning spellings where the 'or' sound is spelled with an 'a' e.g. ball, all, always. We have practiced these spellings using chalk, sentence writing and handwriting.

Maths 14.5.2021

Over the last two weeks in maths we have been learning to tell the time. We have been practicing o'clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and 5 minute intervals.

Science - 07/05/21

This week we started our Science Enquiry. We are investigating what a plant needs to grow. We have planted seeds and varied whether they will be in sunlight or darkness and be watered or not watered. Check back to see which plant is growing best!

April 2021

In Science we are leaning about plants. We went around the school grounds to collect as many different plants as we could. We stuck them on a piece of paper to record our findings.

April 2021

In maths this term we have started to learn about shapes and patterns. We have created our own repeating patterns with chalk, shapes and our whiteboards.

Below is everything we will be learning about in year 2 during the Summer term :)

Any questions - please ask!

Collective Worship

In school the children love coming together for collective worship and learning about our Christian Values. As a school, we will still be uploading our Collective Worship videos to our video resource centre for you to enjoy at home. Click on the link below to access the latest videos.

We have been learning to spell -le words! We used to chalk outside to write the words - I hope Mr Webster doesn't tell us off!

Please see Chimps class page for Year 2 work. Thank you.

Remote Learning Update

Due to the current Lockdown enforced by the Government, our learning has had to move online. We have changed the way we will be delivering this learning from the previous Lockdown, and you should have received an email about this.

For the children at home, there will be 4 live zoom sessions to attend daily, which will be lead by either Mrs Pollard or Miss Allen. The links to these have been emailed and can be found on Tapestry. It is expected the children attend these sessions.  Copies of PowerPoints, resources and worksheets will be uploaded onto Tapestry to support these zoom sessions, and the work to be completed following the sessions.

Attached is a timetable for the zoom sessions, as well as extra activities the children can complete when not attending the scheduled zoom sessions.

If you have further queries or questions, then please contact us via our class emails.

Thank you,

Mrs Pollard and Miss Allen

Happy New Year Koalas!

Just a quick note to say that from January 5th up until February half term we will be doing PE on Tuesday afternoons, so please remember to come in wearing your PE kit.

See you all soon!

PSHE - Spring 1

In PSHE, we will be looking at 'What jobs do people do?'. We will be thinking about jobs in our local community, strengths and interests that enable people to do their jobs and how jobs help people earn money.

If you have a job and are willing to share what you do, please let us know! We would love to share videos or photos that show different job roles!

Email: koalas@eye.peterborough.sch.uk or chimps@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Thank you!

Christmas Challenges

The children will have come home with a Bookman Christmas Reading Challenge and a Times Table Rock Star Christmas Challenge. I look forward to seeing the completed challenges in January.

A big Merry Christmas from us all in Year 2! We have been very busy learning Twas the night before Christmas!  Enjoy!

Times Table Rock Stars

Your child will have come home with a Times Table Rock Stars log in last week. As this is introduced in year 2, i have included some information below to help you support your children on the game.

- The times tables set are 2s, 5s and 10s for all children (this is in line with what we cover in Year 2)

- The game will include both multiplication and division as it is important the children know both operations

-Please only play the 'Garage' games (Highlighted below), as this is the game controlled by the teacher, and will therefore only include 2s, 5s and 10s

If you have any further queries, please speak to me.

In our collective worship we have been focusing on our Christian Value of Community. Today we spoke about friendship and how we could make our friendships stronger!

What are we learning this year?

Hello Koalas!

Welcome to year 2 – I hope you are as excited as I am for a wonderful year of learning! You will be having me every day as your teacher, with Mrs Sullivan, Mrs Cowley and Mrs Heighton teaching on Friday afternoons J

I have attached our curriculum overview so you can have a sneaky peek at what we will be doing this term in year 2!

PE is on Tuesdays– but we won’t start this until 15th September. On PE days you need to come into school wearing your PE kit. I will be doing the same!

I can’t wait to meet you all!

Miss Allen
