Owls - Year 1
Welcome to Owls!
This half term we are planning on immersing your children into a variety of exciting topics including The history of communication, Changing Seasons and our focus text of 'Toys in Space'. Your child will take a journey through time and embark on first-hand experiences to support their development. There is a key link between home learning and school learning in which we hope to enhance throughout the year. If there is anything that your child engages with at home in relation to our school topic, I am very keen to hear about them.
This half term we are focusing on the sounds
'ue' with alternative spellings of 'ew', 'u-e' and 'u'.
'oi' with alternative spelling of 'oy'
'ar' with alternative spellings of 'au' 'a' and 'al'
'o' with alternative spelling of 'a'
'f' with alternative spelling of 'ff' and 'ph'
'j' with alternative spelling of 'g'
PE will take place every Friday. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit (plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts/joggers and a pair of trainers) which is clearly labelled.
Swimming or Forest school (alternate half-terms) will take place every Thursday. Please ensure that your child has a swimming costume, hat and towel for Swimming and a change of clothes, preferably waterproof, for Forest School and Wellies or a change of footwear.
This half term Owls will be participating in Forest School.
Reading books will be changed once a week; every Friday. Although your child will need their reading book every day, as myself and Miss Munns will be listening to your child read throughout the week.
Drop off and collection will be outside Owls Classroom next to the field. I will be promptly at the gate at 8:30 for drop off and 3:20 for collection. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.

Owls have really engaged with learning Makaton. We have a class daily signing session where we recap previously taught signs as well as a new sign everyday.
I have attached the link to some of the resources that we have been using as I know that some of the children are really keen to share the signs with you all at home.
