Koalas - Year 2

We have already been super busy measuring in ml and l!

Welcome back!

Although I am happy we are back to school, I am sad as this is our last term before you go up to year 3 :(

But we will have lots of fun in the next 7 weeks!

In science we will be learning all about plants, and even growing our own!

In topic we will continue our pirate theme ... maybe finishing it off with a trip to the beach.

For maths we will continue looking at time, volume, and money.

I hope you are excited as I am to be back :)

Hamerton Zoo!

Friday 29th March 2019

Hamerton Zoo

Year 2 had a great day at Hamerton Zoo! The weather was perfect, and all the animals were out for us to see!

We had a close encounter with a camel, goats, a skunk, a snake and a tiger!! (The reptile house was being cleaned all day, so we could not see any of those).

In our workshop we listened to one of the zoo keepers explain to us about adaptation and habitats. It was very interesting, and we knew lots of the answers from our topic and science lessons!

World Book Day

Friday 8th March 2019

What a week we have had! It has been World Book Day and International Women's Day, as well as all of our fabulous learning.

We had lots of fun on World Book Day dressing up and acting out scenes from Cinderella (Miss Allen's favourite book!) and performing them to the rest of the class.

On International Women's Day we learnt all about Princess Diana and Jane Goodall. We thought about the questions we might ask Princess Diana and then created a fact file about Jane Goodall. As a class, we also made a video about the important women in our lives.

It has been a very fun week!

Year 2 WOW Day

WOW Day

We had a great WOW day last week! It was wonderful to see so many of the  children dressed up in their costumes! We had lots of fun making candles, buttons, scent bags, sewing and we even made some medicine in the apothecary! We learnt lots of new facts, but we also showed how much we had already learnt this term! We can't wait till the next one!

Friday 19th October 2018

Koalas have been super busy this term! I can’t believe how much we have achieved in the first half term!

Science

We have been learning all about different scientists. We have made telephones, used our senses and even looked at the importance of washing our hands!

English

We have had lots of fun writing stories about The Great Fire of London. We then moved on to writing instructions. We pretended that we were bakers in Thomas Farriner’s bakery! The best part was tasting lots of different breads and making our own jam sandwiches.

Maths

Koala class have been learning all about place value, addition and subtraction! We have worked so hard – and we are all superstars at adding and subtracting! Come and test us!

Topic

We have LOVED learning about The Great Fire of London! You won’t believe all the facts we can remember! We are looking forward to our WOW day in November – which is a day full of The Great Fire of London activities!

Have a look at some of the photos to see just how much fun we have been having!

06/09/18

Welcome to Koalas class!

I am very excited to have 30 Koalas in my class! This is my first year of teaching and I can’t wait for our learning to get started!

Our topic for the Autumn term is the Great Fire of London, with our focus question being ‘Fire: friend or foe?’ We have a variety of exciting texts we will be focusing on in English including ‘Toby and the Great Fire of London.’

In Maths we will be continuing our learning through the use of Maths No Problem. We will begin by focusing on our knowledge of numbers and their value.

During Science this term, we will be learning all about Super Scientists.

In Geography we will be learning about Peterborough in relation to London.

In Art, Koalas will be creating scenes from the Great Fire of London using a range of media.

We will continue to learn Spanish in Miss Donkin’s Spanish assemblies each week.

Useful information

Miss Cox is our teaching assistants.

PE is on a Monday (this could change at any time so please ensure kits are in school every day). Please ensure kits are clearly named.

We encourage children to read regularly and children will receive a reading raffle ticket for reading 5 times a week. Children should record their reading in their reading record daily. We ask that you sign the reading record weekly to show that you have acknowledged your child has read. Children should bring their reading record book into school every day. Thank you.

Please remember your water bottles every day as our classroom does get very warm. Please make sure the water bottle is clearly named and is only filled with water or squash.

Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and is due in on Tuesdays. Please encourage your child to do the challenge questions set. If they wish, they may attend the weekly homework club to complete their homework.

Children will be lining up in the morning outside Koalas door and will be going in to the classroom to complete their morning activity at 8.50am. They will be released from the same place at the end of the day.

We have a fun and busy term ahead and I can't wait to get started. I hope you are as excited as I am!

Please feel free to speak to me for any further information.
