Zebras -Year 5

Summer Learning

Key messages for Summer term:

Children will be set Spelling Shed, TTRS and Complete Maths home learning to complete each week. It is also beneficial for the children to be reading 5 times a week in addition to this. Reading records will be checked every Monday and children will receive a reading raffle ticket if they read 5 times a week- this then puts the children in a draw to win a book just for them!

I will be outside to greet the children each morning from 8:30am, the whistle will be blown at 8:35am and our first lesson will begin promptly at 8:45am.

PE and Forest School will continue to take place every Monday. For PE, children will need to bring an outdoor PE kit which consists of a plain white t-shirt and black or navy bottoms with trainers. Zebras will be doing Forest School and PE and will need to bring appropriate clothing (long sleeves and trousers) and some shoes that can get muddy- children will not be able to do Forest School if they do not have these things.

Children that were swimming during the Spring term will continue to swim. The rest of the children will swim in the second half of the Summer term so that they do not miss out.

Miss Howsam :)

As part of our Geography topic, we looked at how Eye has changed over the past century.

Today in DT, we created series and parallel circuits.

This afternoon, we started our new Art topic: Architecture. Here are a few photos of us sketching our fantastic observational drawings of houses!

Spring Learning

This afternoon we completed our DT topic by making scones, they were delicious! What a fantastic way to finish off our Spring term!

23.01.23- We were very lucky to have had an exciting fencing lesson with Premier Sports!

Autumn Learning

28.11.22 - The children had a fantastic time at The National Space Centre in Leicester today.

15.11.22- Art In Art, we learnt all about collagraphy and how we can use materials with different textures to create a print. Today, we experimented with different materials to see what we would like to use in our next lesson.

9.11.22 - Science - In today's Science lesson, we measured a variety of objects using a Newton-meter and recorded the measurements in Newtons (a unit of force).

03.11.22 - English - Today, the children used their art skills to recreate an illustration from our new focus text 'Hugo Cabret' by Brian Selznick.

02.11.22- English Inspired by the book 'The Inventions of Hugo Cabret', we recreated some of the wonderful illustrations in the book- thinking carefully about the impact and purpose of these images. There are some examples below of the photos we took and uploaded to our class padlet.

03.10.22- Art We have been working so hard on our art skills to create our fantastic final pieces based on our class poem (if you look closely you can see that the lines have been created out of lines from the poem!)

30/09/22 DT - Today we had a go at creating our own suspension bridges!

23.09.22- DT Today we explored the ways in which arches are used to strengthen bridges and created some of our own to see how much weight it could hold!

15.09.22- We were very fortunate to have Mr Hurst in our classroom today, helping us to answer our key focus question this half term ‘How does God show that he is holy and loving?’

05.09.22- The children were immersed into the world of Harry Potter as part of our English hook lesson. They took part in different activities linked to Harry Potter and even tried out using a quill pen!
