Good morning Year 6 – hope you all had a great weekend J .  Can you believe we are about to move into July this week!  As we were all due to set off to PGL this weekend, we thought it would be fun to try and incorporate some PGL style activities into your distance learning.  You will have 3 core pieces of work to complete each day before choosing some of the PGL style activities to have a go at. Some of the activities are more suited for you to complete at home, whilst others are more appropriate for the children in school, so please pick the activities which you think you could most effectively do at home!

You will be working from one big ppt this week, which has all the information you need!

Good morning Year 6 – hope you all had a great weekend J . This week our theme for distance learning is ‘Africa’. There is a PowerPoint below for you to follow. We are aware that the ‘PE with Joe’ is no longer live daily. Therefore, during this part of the distance learning, we would like you to complete 30 minutes of exercise of your choice (this could be a previous Joe Wicks workout, a bike ride or a walk – it is totally up to you).  You will notice that some of your tasks are called ‘DigiMap’ sessions. This is a new tool that we have purchased as a school and it is fantastic. There will be a separate PowerPoint loaded below for you to follow. There are about 10 tasks in total, but it is up to you how many you choose to complete each day, as long as they are finished by the end of the week. The PowerPoint has step-by-step instructions and diagrams to help you with the tasks.

Task one - The Ins and Outs of Running a Zoo

When the owners of a zoo begin to plan their zoo, they don’t just draw out a map and make a list of the animals they are going to have there. Thought has to go into how they are going to ensure they have enough money to keep the zoo running, as well as what each of the animals’ habitats will contain.

Your Task

Using the iPads, can you undertake some research to decide the following…

  • How you are going to raise money to keep your zoo running, e.g. ticket prices, adopt an animal schemes, charity boxes/events etc.
  • What does each of your chosen animal’s habitat need in order for them to survive? What things can be placed into their enclosures to ensure they are mentally stimulated and entertained?

Task two- Maths Revision

Today we will be focusing on written methods.

Task three- Today’s Task Zoo Builders!

Today you will need to ensure your zoo design is completed. Don’t forget to add colour!

Task One – On the 21st March 2020, zoos were told to close due to the country going into lockdown. Up until last week, there were no plans to open zoos at all. This caused lots of worry for zoo keepers. How do you think this has impacted the animals living in these zoos?

Visit https://www.chesterzoo.org/saveourzoo/ to see how Chester Zoo has been impacted during lockdown.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52483218

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-52493750

Your task

Can you create something to explain how lockdown has impacted the animals living in zoos?

This could be a poster or a bubble map or something else of your choosing.

Task Two – What Now for Zoos?

Last week, after much outrage from the general public surrounding the re-opening of zoos, the government announced that zoos could re-open from the 15th June.

This was wonderful news as many zoos were worried about how the animals would survive if the zoos weren’t making any money.

Your Task

Can you come up with a plan to help the zoos recover from the impact the coronavirus has had on them? What sort of things could they be doing to encourage people to come and visit?

Task Three-   Today, you need to begin to design your zoo. You will need a large piece of plain white paper and a pencil.

You will need to begin to draw out the different areas you planned yesterday. Think about the best placement for each animal. You may even come up with something new to add that you didn’t think of yesterday. This is going to end up being the map of your zoo.

What does it mean if you are a wee man?

What is a gargoyle?

Find and copy a sentence that shows which shows Daniel wanted to escape Glasgow.

How do you think Daniel felt behind the shop door?

Find and copy three shops on the narrow street.

Your task

What information have we learnt about Daniel’s character?

Use information from the text to answer this question in full sentences.

Task Two – Maths Revision

Today we will be focusing on place value, rounding, ordering and estimating.

Please work through the Maths Revision power point below.

Task Three-  Over the course of this week, we are going to be working on creating our own zoo!

This afternoon, your task is to begin researching information that will help you design your zoo.

  • Create a list of animals you would have in your zoo.
  • Research their habitats
  • Consider how this would affect the design of your zoo.
  • Consider visiting Edinburgh Zoo Website and watch the live webcams to learn more about your animals and their habitats.  https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/webcams/panda-cam/

Friday 12th June 2020 12.06.20

Good morning Year 6. This is your final day of transitionThis week we are going to be focusing on the ‘transition to secondary school’. This is difficult to do via distance learning but hopefully you will be interested and enjoy what you find out! The more you put into this week, the more beneficial to you it will be! Also, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this – please contact your class teacher who will be more than will Today, you have three tasks to complete. Task One - You will be at secondary school from the age of 11 – 18 (some of you may choose to leave school at 16). During this period of time, a lot will change for you. Thinking about your future self we want you to think about hopes, dreams and ambitions for secondary school. Your task is to select one of the jars: hope, dreams and ambitions and create your own jar outlining either of your hopes, dreams andambitions for secondary school. You could choose to combine all in one jar if you wish.

You could think about….

What do you hope you will achieve?

What kind of person do you hope to become?

Words you hope people will describe you as..

Use the PPT below to support you (make sure you scroll through to Friday 12th June)

Task Two – Myth Busters

As much as there are many positives to look forward to when starting secondary school, there are also many negative rumours. During this task we are going to be myth busters, and filtering out any myths we have heard, as secondary school can be scary enough without these myths to make it even more daunting.

Use the PPT to read through some different myths and also write down what you have heard.

Create a list of the myths we have discussed today and we want you to put a big red line through them to show that they are in fact false, and not things you need to worry about!

Imagine you are throwing these worries and anxieties away and erasing them from your mind.

Task 3: Today is the final day of your art project that will represent your journey through your time at Eye C of E Primary School. Remember we want this piece of to showcase your favourite memories of your time at school. It will be your choice how you present your final piece, and what you choose to include. It can include a mixture of words and phrases.

Today we want you to add colour to your artwork. Please send us in any pictures of your finished pieces, we would love to see them!

Use the PPT below to support you with your artwork.

Thursday 11th June 2020 11.06.20

Task Two- Writing task: You are going to write a letter to your future self. Seal it in an envelope and keep it somewhere safe – you may open it again when you finish your first year at secondary school. Think carefully about what you would like to become and how you would like to be portrayed (viewed by others). This letter should be for your eyes only (private) as this enables you to be open and honest with your thoughts and feelings. Some things you may wish to include:

  • How you are feeling
  • What are your ambitions?
  • What new things would you like to try?
  • What would you like to change about yourself?
  • What positive things do you like about yourself and wish for them to stay the same?

Task Three- This is one of your last ‘transition’ tasks this week AND it is an important one. Hopefully, this week’s learning should have made you feel confident about starting secondary school. Your task today is to jot down any further questions or concerns that you have about secondary school and ask a parent/carer at home or email them to your class teacher for further clarification.

Wednesday 10th  June 2020 10.06.20

Find out as much information about life in Year 7 as possible.

  • Explore the curriculum for Year 7
  • Information about: The Headteacher, The Head of year 7.
  • House system
  • School day timings (length of lessons, how many in one day)

Good morning Year 6.  Today you are going to begin a 3-day art project that will represent your journey through your time at Eye C of E Primary School. We want this piece of to showcase your favourite memories of your time at school. It will be your choice how you present your final piece, and what you choose to include. It can include a mixture of words and phrases.

Today we want you to focus on the planning. Make a list of the memories you want to include and then think about how you can represent these – will be it pictures of words? Also, think about your layout and where you will place the different words and images and what colours you might choose to use.

Use the PPT below to support you with your artwork.

Please remember if you have any questions or concerns regarding this – please contact your class teacher. If you want to do anything extra, then feel free to look through the Distance Learning booklets and choose something from there.

Task Two- Your daily routine will change when you start secondary school. Talk to a friend/sibling/parent about what you think will stay the same and what you think will change. Create your own daily routine (you can write this out or use an iPad or laptop) to plan out what your day will look like at secondary school. You may even consider what evening’s you would like to do your homework on and consider which days you may be doing sports on – a routine is one of the best ways to stay organised!

Monday  8th June 2020 08.06.20

Good morning Year 6. This week we are going to be focusing on the ‘transition to secondary school’. This is particularly challenging to do via distance learning but hopefully the activities we have selected for you will help get you excited for you new start. The more you put into this week, the more beneficial to you it will be! Also, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this – please contact your class teacher. Today, you have three tasks to complete. If you want to do anything extra, then feel free to look through the Distance Learning booklets and choose something from there.

As always, if you need to contact us, you can do so on the email addresses below.

Miss Collins – panthers@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Miss Faux- lions@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Miss Scane- jaguars@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Miss Wren- tigers@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Task One- A reflection activity. Think extremely carefully about your time and experiences throughout primary school. You may wish to consider: how you felt when starting in Reception; how you felt moving to a new teacher each year; how it felt when you made new friends; how it felt when good friends left the school etc. Make a list of some of the positive experiences you have had, then make a list of some of the negative experiences you have had. Then, you are going to create a timeline of your time at Eye Primary School. If you started in reception you will begin there, or if you joined the school at a later stage start in that year group. You will be able to present your timeline however you wish, but it must be in chronological order.

Task TwoWe want you to think carefully about the things you are looking forward to when starting secondary school. Secondary school is where you will make some of the best memories and make some new friends which will last a life time! Using the ideas you have created and the video below to support, we would like you to create poster, a list or even a poem about all the things that you are excited about for secondary school.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z7b9scw

Task Three- Thinking Positively! It is really important to be proud of who we are and to think positively about yourself; you are all amazing! This task is all about you writing down all the information you would want your form tutor to know about you. Think back to when you did your wonder drawings. We would like you to draw yourself in the middle of your page, just your face and around your drawing write down all the words to describe you.

Think about:

What you enjoy?

What you are good at?

What do people like about you?

What have you achieved this year?

What do you like doing in your spare time?

Linked below is a PowerPoint entitled ‘Friday 5th June World Environment Day’. This is the same PowerPoint we will be using in school and the three tasks you need to complete today are presented within it. The first task requires you to think about what could make the positive effects of the coronavirus pandemic more permanent within our environment. The second task is a bit of a blast from the past (I won’t give anything else away!). The third and last task to complete our work this week is another reading comprehension through song, this time with a classic pop song from before you were born! It has a fantastic message and links in to our work on the environment perfectly.

We miss you lots and remain incredibly proud of how hard you are all working throughout these uncertain times.

As always, if you need to contact us, you can do so on the email addresses below. Our replies won’t be as quick as usual due to us being in school, but we will try to get back to you as quick as we can.

Linked below is a PowerPoint entitled ‘Thursday Distance Learning Living in a Green City’. This is a slightly edited version of what we are going to be using in school today to learn more about the environment and complete our ‘create your own town’ project. Work your way carefully through the PowerPoint and complete the two tasks explained on it. Both tasks are part of our town project and will take us nicely into World Environment Day tomorrow!

Good morning Year 6. Just a reminder to make sure you complete all the tasks set for you (especially if you are coming back to school on Thursday). We are really looking forward to seeing more of you tomorrow. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep tonight in preparation.

As always, if you need to contact us, you can do so on the email addresses below. Our replies won’t be as quick as usual due to us being in school, but we will try to get back to you as quick as we can.

Task One- Linked below is a PowerPoint all about the artist Banksy. He has produced many street art pieces over the years, usually with some kind of political message, but no-one actually knows his real identity. He’s a secret artist! Work your way through the presentation and make some notes about him and his art. Can you work out what some of the messages within his art might be?

Task Two- You have an option with this task. Linked below is a second PowerPoint, titled Banksy Art Choices. There are three images of Banksy’s most recent street art. The first option is to choose one of the pieces and create your own version of it, either copying it completely or changing parts of it if you wish. Try to keep to Banksy’s style if you can; he uses a lot of black, white and grey with colour used as a focus point within his art. The second option is to be a little more creative and create your own art, inspired by Banksy, with a message related to the world issue you researched yesterday. So, for example, if you created a presentation on racism, your Banksy-inspired art would try to portray the effect racism is having on the world. Remember to stick to his style as much as possible.

Task Three- Day three of our ‘create your own town’ task and we are carrying on our Art theme. Today, you will need to colour in your map carefully and neatly and then, using the third PowerPoint linked below, draw a co-ordinate grid over the top of it. This will help us to create a key to identify where particular places are within your town. An example of this is on the PowerPoint.

Good morning Year 6. Just a reminder to make sure you complete all the tasks set for you (especially if you are coming back to school on Thursday). There are only two main tasks today as task number one is quite a lengthy one.

As always, if you need to contact us, you can do so on the email addresses below. Our replies won’t be as quick as usual due to us being in school, but we will try to get back to you as quick as we can.

Miss Wren- tigers@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Miss Collins- panthers@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Task One- Have a think about some of the big issues affecting the world today. Many of them have been in the newspapers recently. Things like racism, Covid-19, life beyond Earth in Space with the latest shuttle launch are just a few. We would like you to choose one of these world issues, conduct some research on it and then create a presentation (this could be PowerPoint or Adobe Spark Video) to present the information you have found. Try to avoid creating a presentation on the environment if you can as we will be doing much more on this world issue later on this week.

Task Two- Day two of our ‘create your own town’ project. Today town builders, you will begin to actually design your town. You will need a pencil, ruler and a big sheet of plain, white paper. For those of your returning to school on Thursday, you will need to bring this with you, so try to ensure it is kept beautifully presented. Below is linked a PowerPoint with an idea as to how this might look. You will basically be creating a map of your town, ensuring all the key places are featured on it. Take some time to think about positioning though and the space surrounding the buildings you place. There needs to be roads featured too. Do not add any colour!

Tuesday Map Design Inspiration...

Monday 1st June 2020, 1.6.2020

Good morning Year 6. As you will know, today is the first day back to school for some of your classmates (and Thursday will see the return of more of you!) Those of you that are remaining at home will not be doing anything different from what we are doing in school. The only difference will be the settings you are working in. Baring this in mind, there may be more similar tasks set in the following weeks because we need to ensure children in school can complete them too.

It is really important that you complete all tasks set this week, especially the ‘create your own town’ task (more details below). We will be continuing some of the tasks in school on Thursday and Friday, so if you are due to return, you need to have completed them ready. We are very excited to see so many of your faces and continue to miss those of you we aren’t seeing just yet.

As always, if you need to contact us, you can do so on the email addresses below. Our replies won’t be as quick as usual due to us being in school, but we will try to get back to you as quick as we can.

Task One- Another reading comprehension based on a well-known song today. Listen carefully and watch the music video of Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’ and then answer the reading comprehension questions based on the lyrics. The document you need is linked below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zABLecsR5UE

Task Two- How much can you remember from our Maths lessons this year? We’ll soon find out when you take part in the Maths Quiz! The PowerPoint with the quiz questions on it is linked below for you to download. The questions are multiple choice and the answers are on the slides, but don’t cheat! Have a good go at each question yourself first before checking your answer.

Task Three- A little more information on the ‘create your own town’ task we will be completing over the course of this week. On Friday, it is World Environment Day, so this entire week is going to dip into tasks related to our beloved planet and what we can do to save it. Our main task this week is going to be creating and making up our own towns. Each day, you will be given the next set of instructions to this activity. Sometimes there will be a PowerPoint to help you. Today, however, your task is simple, but creative. You need to begin thinking about your town and planning out some ideas on paper.

  • What is the name of your town?
  • Create a list of things within your town, e.g. shops, buildings, schools, parks, emergency services etc. You could even come up with names for some of those too like a name for the café and the primary school.
  • Decide on some key facts about your town. What is the population? Do you have an MP or a mayor? What is the landscape like- is it more like a busy city or more like the countryside? What transport is available?

You are not designing your town properly today. Today is all about jotting down ideas ready to begin designing it.

Today’s task is an extended writing task. This will involve you using the research you gathered yesterday to be able to complete. Of course, if you need more information to support the task, use the internet to gather it.

We would like you to write a newspaper article as if you are a reporter witnessing the hanging of Dick Turpin. You will be reporting on the events of the day, as well as giving the reader an insight into the life and times of Turpin and why it was such a momentous day that he was finally captured and killed. This can be completed in your Distance Learning books or completed on a computer and sent over. Remember to include some drawings or pictures.

Use the links below to help support you with your newspaper writing.

Today’s task is a research based one. You need to gather as much information as you can. The more information you gather, the easier you will find tomorrow’s task to complete.

We would like you to research as much information as you can about Dick Turpin, the infamous Highwayman. He lived during the Georgian times and would have been one of the key figures we studied during our Crime and Punishment topic this term. You will need to learn what a highwayman was, why Dick Turpin was so infamous and dig deep to find the real story of his life. This will involve your Computing skills to ensure the websites you are using are giving you accurate information.

Ensure you find out specifically about how he was caught and killed. You will need as much information as possible about his capture and punishment for tomorrow’s task. I’ve linked a PowerPoint below and some sources to this post to support your learning too.

Some websites and videos to support you with your research to get you started:

Good morning Year 6. Something different this week to, hopefully, get you working a little more practically and give you a break from the CGP books. Today, you have three tasks to complete. If you want to do anything extra, then feel free to look through the Distance Learning booklets and choose something from there.

As always, if you need to contact us, you can do so on the email addresses below.

Miss Faux- lions@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Miss Scane- jaguars@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Miss Wren- tigers@eye.peterborough.sch.uk

Task One- Something a little different today. Arguably one of the most inspiring and empowering songs released over the last few years, ‘This is Me’ from the Greatest Showman describes what it means to feel as if you aren’t a part of society and learning how to be proud of who you are. Watch and listen carefully to the YouTube video of the song linked below and then answer the reading comprehension questions. The questions and song lyrics are linked in the document beneath this post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjxugyZCfuw (Link to YouTube)

Task Two- We’d like you to write a lockdown letter today. You are going to write this letter to yourself to open when you are older and reflect back on what life is like at this moment in time. In it, we’d like you to outline what is happening in the world and what has caused it, but also think about where you are in your lives now. Outline how it has affected you, as well as what you are like as a person today. Once complete, pop it in an envelope, seal it shut and write your name on it with a date to open in the future, preferably quite some time away. Ask your parents and carers to keep it safe for you.

Task Three- Today, we would like you to go for a walk for your daily exercise, preferably somewhere quite natural like the Nature Reserve or a woodland area if you can. This can be at any point of the day, but we want you to walk and enjoy the world around you. We want you to look around you on your walk and take note of the beautiful things about the world. How many different animals can you spot? What is the weather like? How does the weather feel? Take a moment to watch the clouds move. Can you spot any shapes that they make? How many different types of plants, flowers and trees can you see? Walking is a wonderful way to clear your mind and help you feel relaxed.

Some new optional extra ideas- create a rainbow for the NHS to display in your living room window (please send any photos so we can put them on the class page, keep a diary about your time in lockdown, create a lockdown time capsule with your family, cook together as a family, bake together as a family, Joe Wicks HIIT workouts each morning, teach a younger sibling a new skill, take on a new hobby like sewing or gardening, learn a new skill like a language or origami and remember… read, read, read!

Task One- A little bit of Geography today. We learnt about icebergs before Christmas and read the story of Ernest Shackleton and his expedition across Antarctica. Using research to support your task, can you write his biography? It should feature sections about his early life, how he can to be an explorer, the expedition itself and what happened and the end of his life and death.

Task Two- Something that incorporates a little C4LS and some Art. As I’m sure most of you will agree, one of the most frustrating elements of lockdown for you is that you have missed out on some of the most exciting things about being in Year 6. As you know we have a few things in our heads planned that we hope we will be able to do once lockdown is over, but for now we will continue to stay home to stay safe and support the NHS. Today, we’d like you to create a piece of Art to showcase how lockdown has affected you personally. Try to incorporate the positives as well as the negatives and then send us a photo to display on the class page.

Task Three- Help Mum or Dad out today in some way. Not only will it be appreciated, it will be a lovely opportunity to spend some time together. You could help cook dinner or work in the garden. It might be keeping a younger sibling occupied or helping with their school work. It might be helping to tidy and clean the house. Let us know what you did over email!

Task One- A little revision activity for you all. We learnt all about the Titanic back in the Autumn Term and you LOVED it (as did we!). Can you create something to outline everything you can remember? It could be a timeline of the night the Titanic sunk, an information poster outlining key facts and people or even a PowerPoint presentation that you could send to us to have a look at. The internet will be your best friend here, so make sure you use it to brush up on anything you may have forgotten!

Task Two- https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zrcpscw Follow the link to take you to the BBC Bitesize website. This lesson teaches you how plants reproduce. It features a lovely animation, a missing words activity and a quiz to see how much you have learnt. Can you make a note of any key words and what they mean?

Task Three- Take a little time today to read a book. Aim for at least an hour. This could be broken up over the course of the day or done all in one go. Can you make a note in your distance learning book to tell us what the book is about and what happened in the parts you read today?

Some new optional extra ideas- create a rainbow for the NHS to display in your living room window (please send any photos so we can put them on the class page, keep a diary about your time in lockdown, create a lockdown time capsule with your family, cook together as a family, bake together as a family, Joe Wicks HIIT workouts each morning, teach a younger sibling a new skill, take on a new hobby like sewing or gardening, learn a new skill like a language or origami and remember… read, read, read!

Task One – English Task

Today you will be writing your film review. Use the two WAGOLLS in the folders below to help you. We would you to use the following structure:

  • Plot Synopsis: Think about what sort of genre it is (action, comedy, adventure etc) and then explain what the film is about without giving away too much information. No spoilers!
  • Write about the actors: Who are they? What else have they been in? Did they do a good job?
  • Write about the good points: Setting, sound effects, plot, actors, camera angles.
  • Write aboiut the bad points
  • Write about your favourite part of the film.
  • Give your overall opinion of the whole film.
  • Finish with a star rating.

Task Two – Maths Task

Times Table Rockstars Battle: Log on to Ttrockstars and compete in the battle against the other Year 6 classes. The battle will only be for today, so make you play as many games as possible to ensure your class wins. Good luck and may the best class win!

Task 3 – PE

During our PE lessons at school we focued a lot on balance, holds and points of contact. How many different poses can you come up with? Get your parents to take a picture of your best efforts. Remember in order to be a balanced pose you MUST be able to hold it for more than 3 seconds.

Task One – English Task

This task is to be completed over two days. The first part of the task is to watch a film of your choice with your family. You might decide to turn this into a family movie night (make sure you have some popcorn).  Tomorrow you will be writing a film review based on this film, so make sure to pay close attention!

Task Two – Reading Task

Take some time out of your day to read your book. Find a quiet corner, a comfy spot on the sofa or even on your bed and really immerse yourself in your current book. Try to read atleast one chapter.

Task 3 – Emoji Quiz

Last week you were given and Emoji challenge to name famous childhood books. This week it is your turn to come up with your own Emoji quiz to challenge to a friend, family member or your teacher. Your quiz can either be on songs or books.

Task One – Debating Task

Is now the right time to re-open our schools?

Today’s task is a spoken language task. You may have seen on the news that there is lots of discussion at the moment about re-opening schools and year 6 being one of the first years to come back. How does this make you feel? Do you think this right the decision? Consider both the positives and the negatives and the bigger picture of re-opening schools. Once you have collected your ideas, we would like you to have a debate with your parents / siblings to share your point of view.

Task Two – DT

In the summer term, we will be focusing on food technology, so this is your perfect chance to practise. With your parents, we would like you to follow a recipe and come up with a dish that your family can eat. Will you pick a healthy option? What cooking techniques will you use? How will you make sure you are staying safe?

Once you have finished, take a photo of what you have made and send it your class teacher.

Task 3 – Art Task

Select your favourite book and focus carefully on the front cover. Your task is to re-create the front cover at home and then take a picture of your effort. Let’s see how creative you can be!

Task One – Online Safety

The use of social media and technology has definitely increased during these uncertain times. We have focused a lot this year on internet safety and how to keep ourselves safe online. We would like you to create an information sheet outlining the different ways we can keep ourselves safe online.

Task Two – History Task

During our World War learning, we learnt about the importance of posters and how they were used for propaganda and to promote support. Your task today is to create a poster that could be used to support people through this challenging time. Think about your target audience and what slogans you will use.

Task 3 – Art Task

Earlier in the year you completed some fantastic pieces of Wonder artwork. Using this as your inspiration, create a similar piece of artwork to showcase what is going on in the world right now. You may use the Earth as your main image and choose to fill this with different words or use the image of a rainbow. Think carefully about the range of emotions and feelings people from all over the world may be having.

Wonder Artwork

A little something I found online

To all our Year 6’s,

As SATS week arrives it is not quite the same,

The tests that were printed this year never came.

The displays all still up; walls full of maths “rules”,

But Year 6 is very different, at present, in schools.

For some of you, happiness, lots of relief,

For others a sigh of pure disbelief,

that you worked really hard in advance of this week,

expected and greater depth marks you all did seek.

Algebra, fractions, the times table drills,

Inference, retrieval and in-depth reading skills.

Past present, progressive… and all the SPAG terms,

You’ve practiced and mastered them over the years.

Fear not though, the SATS, yes won’t happen this term

But remember tests don’t measure everything you learn.

Primary subjects are varied; you’ve always tried your best.

And many of those skills that you gained, can’t be defined by a test.

So, here at Eye Primary, you’ve made us so proud,

We sit here with pride and we shout this out loud,

“Year 6 you amaze us, you’ve come incredibly far,

And we don’t need a test to see how amazing you all are!”

Good morning Year 6. Hope you are all okay. Starting this week, we are going to mix up your home learning a bit. We will be stepping away from the CGP books and focusing on the foundation subjects. Today, you have three tasks to complete. If you want to do anything extra, then feel free to look through the Distance Learning booklets and choose something from there.

Remember if you need anything (log-ins, support etc.) please email your class teacher on their corresponding email address below.

Task One – Writing Task

Today would have been the start of your SATS week, which we all know you worked incredibly hard for and we are all so proud of you all. In light of this, we would like you to create a piece of work to reflect how not taking your SATS made you feel (your chance to be honest). Think about both the positives and the negatives of not sitting them. You may wish to present this as a letter, a poem, a discussion text or even a diary entry.

Task Two – Music Task

Think back to our music lessons where we focused on “Lucky” by Pharrell Williams. Research your favourite song to find out the purpose of it being produced and then think about:

  • Why do you like the song?
  • What instruments can you hear?
  • What is the style of music?
  • Tempo
  • Rhythm
  • Mood of the song
  • What it reminds you of

Task 3 - Be Kind

Take time out of your day today to do something for a family member. Just a small gesture could brighten up someone elses day, not only putting a big smile on their face but also yours.

VE Day 8th May 2020

Hi Year 6 and your parents,

We have some wonderful news to share with you all. As you are all aware, this would have been your last few months at Eye Primary School. Although we cannot celebrate you all like we would hope to at this time, the ESA (Eye School Association) have very kindly offered to give you all a small part of the usual Year 6 leavers ritual. They have offered to cover the entire cost for each of you to order yourself a Year 6 leavers hoodie. That means, that this year, you will all receive your hoodie as a gift, rather than having to pay for it yourselves.

The ESA felt that you all deserved something special and we are so grateful to them for offering something so kind to you all. A letter has been sent to all parents on Parentmail and it is really important that this is looked at to show you how to order. There is a cut-off date for ordering, however, and no late orders will be accepted, so please make sure you order within the given time frame. We will be calling each and every one of you Thursday and Friday this week, so will ensure to remind you all then too.

We have uploaded the letter directly from the ESA underneath this post.

This is a lovely gesture and you all deserve to receive this special gift as you are all very special children. We miss you lots and can't wait to speak to you all at the end of the week.

Distance Learning: Letter for Parents/Carers

Year 6 have had a great week to finish off January. We had a special assembly led by the NSPCC to launch our school fund-raising event, which will begin on the 3rd February. We have also been visited by the artist Roland Burt, who led a special art session with us, where we learnt that everyone is an artist and you can use many tools to create art.

NSPCC

Today we had a very special visitor in school - Book Man! He is our school superhero and he set us a reading challenge to complete over the Christmas break. The 12 days of Christmas Reading Challenge. We look forward to seeing him around school in the New Year.

Well done to Lucy - the winner of our Class End of Unit Quiz on the Titanic. What a fantastic prize to win too!

Year 6 had a fantastic treat this week, travelling to London and to the National Maritime Museum. We took part in a workshop called 'Titanic: Frozen in Time'. This included learning Morse Code, looking at artifacts found on the Titanic and having high tea with John Jacob Astor, the richest man who travelled on board the ship. We had a brilliant time and it was great to share some of our own learning with historians at the museum.

Dissection of a sheep eye! Today, Year 6 dissected a sheep's eye as part of our Science unit. The sheep's eye consisted of the retina, pupil, iris, lens, blood vessels and optic nerves! To dissect the eye we used tweezers and scissors (to cut into the eye), gloves (to protect our hands) and plastic containers (to keep the eye in)! Tigers thoroughly enjoyed dissecting the eye! Here are some of the pictures we took!

Our Titanic Social Class Presentations

Today, we were lucky enough to have a Modern Slavery Workshop. We learnt lots about modern slavery through the use of drama and role play nd the warning signs to look out for.

Year 6's Titanic topic kicked off with a bang with Friday's WOW day...

Year 6 immersed themselves in the age of the Titanic during our WOW day, researching real passengers and crew members who boarded the famous ship and finding out their fates. This research introduced the children to a world of fascinating facts, which has only served to increase curiosity surrounding this topic and our History lessons ahead. We spent the next part of the day finding out what life would have been like for our passengers based on the class system on board the ship before joining together to hot seat and teach one another about first, second and third class. This incredible day ended with a year group circle time, an opportunity to share with everyone some brilliant facts from the day and, as was the case with facts shared by some children, facts learnt through independent research.

Check out some of our photos below!

Welcome to Tigers Class Page!

The Tigers class is taught by Miss Wren.

PE will be on Monday. Please ensure that PE kits are in school every week as this is an important part of our school curriculum and we encourage all children to take part. Appropriate PE kit consists of a white t-shirt, black or blue shorts or jogging bottoms and suitable footwear such as trainers or plimsolls.

Home Learning Books are due in every Tuesday and will be marked ready for you to complete the next tasks on Thursday.

Individual Reading Diaries will not be given to children in Years 5 and 6 this year. Instead, there will be a class reading diary with individual pages for each child to track the books they have read when they have finished them. This is to encourage more independence and maturity when approaching reading. Raffle tickets and prizes will still be in place for UKS2 and Miss Reed will be in charge of this!

All children will still have access to Times Table Rockstars and we hope you will join us in encouraging your child to access this at home as much as possible.

Autumn 1

I am looking forward to an action-packed first half term with my new class!  We have some fantastic new learning opportunities lined up, kick-started by a brand new History topic- The Titanic! Our learning in class will be accompanied by a trip to the Greenwich Maritime Museum in October to spend the day as a Titanic passenger. More information to come!

In English, we will be immersing ourselves in the classic novel 'Skellig' by David Almond. This is a rather mysterious text with an interesting twist on a previously well-known supernatural being... stay tuned to find out more!

In Math, we will be studying number and place value, ensuring that we are secure with numbers to ten million. This will then be followed by revision of the four operations. Please come and speak to us if you have any questions about concepts or methods taught in class if you wish to support your child at home.

Letters will be sent home regarding both the Titanic trip to London and PGL, our annual Year 6 residential during the first full week back. Any queries at all, please speak to one of the Year 6 teachers.

Please keep checking out our class page for important updates and snapshots of our learning! :)
