Geography - 22nd June 2021

Today, we deepened our understanding of the water cycle by creating our own in a bag. We drew the cycle on a zip-lock bag and added in our own water to replicate the sea. We then taped our bags on to the window and we will be monitoring our experiment to see how the water evaporates and then forms condensation.

Golden Award - 18th June 2021

Congratulations to both Kian and Willow for winning the Golden Awards in Pandas class.

Also, well done to Olly H for winning the Times Table Rock Stars trophy.

Maths - 14th June 2021

We have been looking at symmetry in Maths. Today, we have been looking at what happens when a pattern is printed. In pairs, one us created a pattern and then drew in the line of symmetry; then the other used a mirror to draw in the pattern on the other side.

Science - 11th June 2021

We looked at the states of matter today - solids, liquids and gases. We looked at how the particles behave in each of these states: solids are closely packed together, not able to move much; liquids are spread apart but staying within a container and gases are far apart and move around freely. We went outside to act like these particles:

Bookman Half Term Reading Challenge!

Congratulations to Ruby, Bella H, Olly H, Kian, Daisy, Matteo, Toby, Isla and Evie for reading 5 times over the May Half Term and completing Bookman's challenge!

English - 8th June 2021

We have looked at the first two chapters of Beowulf. We then came up with our own questions we would have liked to ask King Hrothgar about when Grendel first attacked. You can watch Matteo and Evie below hot-seating as King Hrothgar, answering the questions.

We had to come up with our own prices, work out the expenses and calculate our profits at the end

Science - 14th May 2021

Today, we conducted our own experiment with the circuits. We looked into how the brightness of a bulb might change. Before our experiment, we predicted that if you add a batteries to the circuit, the bulb would be brighter and if you added more bulbs, they would be dimmer. We had lots of fun finding out if we were right.

History - 11th May 2021

Today's lesson was all about the Vikings! We learnt how the Vikings came to Britain and about the struggles over land with the Anglo-Saxons. We particularly enjoyed looking over two of the amazing Anglo-Saxon Kings - King Alfred the Great and King Athelstan. In pairs, we each pretended to be one of these Kings and we debated over who was the better King and why! You can see one of the debates below:

Last week and this week, we have been looking closely at the first chapter of The Miraculous Journey of  Edward Tulane. Every lesson we answer some inference questions based on what we have read. Today, we played a game of Dictionary Race! In groups, we had to find some Tier 3 vocabulary from the book and their definition - it gets very competitive!

Take a look at some of the definitions below:

You should all have Times Table Rock Stars, Spelling Shed and Rapid Router logins (if you have forgotten these, then please email pandas@eye.peterborough.sch.uk)

I hope you are all keeping safe and I hope that we get to all be in school again soon (I miss you!!)

Miss Rimes

Tuesday 15th December - Christingles

We made our own christingles today!

Monday 14th December - Computing (Rapid Router)

We got to use the laptops to play Rapid Router (a coding game). We used what we had learnt earlier in the day about algorithms to direct the truck through certain routes.

Rapid Router

Monday 14th December - Computing (Unpluggged)

We have been looking at algorithms and how precise they need to be for a computer to understand. We went out outside with chalk and created our own algorithm for our partners to follow around the playground.

Christian Values Award - Peace

We had a tie in Pandas for the Peace award this half term! Well done to both Poppy and Eden for being such peaceful Pandas!

Friday 11th December - Science

For our last Science lesson on Sound, we looked at how the sound can travel through objects. we used paper cups and string to make our own String Phones. We went outside and tried to talk to our partner without the phone. Then, we used the String Phones and we could hear our parent a lot better!

Thursday 10th December - PE

This term in PE, we have been playing Netball and Benchball. This Thursday, we played our last game of Benchball which was so much fun! You can watch one of the games by clicking the link below:

Friday 4th December - Science

Today in Science, we looked at how to change the pitch of different instruments. We then made our own flutes with straws (which was very difficult!) that made a humming sound. The shorter the straw got, the higher the pitch.

Today, we looked more at the sound vibrations. We all went into the hall and discussed how the sound itself doesn't change when we get further away, but that the vibrations get slower the closer they get to us.

We also looked at the sound vibrations using tuning forks. We hit the tuning forks on the table and could feel the sound vibrating. We also dipped them in water to see the vibrations splashing the water!

Silver Star Awards!

Congratulations to Ben, Poppy and Toby for getting 10 Silver Stars so far!

Friday 13th November - Art

We created our very own silhouette pictures today based on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We used paint and watch to create a sunset sky effect as the background. We then drew and cut out our image for the silhouette. We think they look great!

Friday 13th November - Science (Sound)

This week, we looked at how sound might travel through different objects. We looked at a bell and had to guess what kind of sound and the volume it would make. We then wrapped the bell in different objects to see if the noise changes.

**MESSAGE FROM MISS RIMES**

It has come to my attention that there has been some issues about the children going to the toilet. Of course the children may go to the toilet whenever they need to, we do encourage them to go at the appropriate time; such as break and lunch.  I am sure you understand that due to Covid-19, we have had to be stricter with children getting up and leaving the classroom, this means we are operating a one child in the toilets rule. This may mean your child has to wait for another child to come back. Thank you, Miss Rimes & Mrs Edwards.

Science - Thursday 10th September 2020

In Science, we are looking at Forces and Magnets. We discussed the different types of forces, such as impact, friction, push and pull. On Thursday we went outside and explored different forces using the play equipment. We then came inside to write about what we found out.

Geography - Thursday 10th September

This week in Geography we have been looking at Rainforests. We looked at where in the World Rainforests are located. On Thursday we discussed how our Rainforests are being destroyed and what we can do to help. We pretended to interview each other; asking 'Why are the rainforests being destroyed?' (Trees are being cut down for timber), 'Why is deforestation a problem? (Animals lose their homes and native tribes losing their culture), 'What can be done to save the rainforest?' (Don't waste electricity and replant trees).

History - Tuesday 8th September.

We have been recapping Maya Civilizations in History this week. We have discussed their rituals, their culture and even did some Mayan Maths! On Tuesday we went outside and pretended to be Ancient Mayans. We acted out weddings, markets and rituals.

We have had so much great fun in our first two days as Pandas.

Someone secretly ruined our classroom so we had no-where to learn! We had to work together to build our own classrooms/dens in the forest area.

We also were inspired by the title of our English book, The Wolves in the Walls, and decided to work hard to draw our very own wolf pictures - they look amazing!

Pandas 2020!

Hello Pandas!

I am so excited for the start of this year and to meet you all! We have so many exciting things planned already and I can't wait for us all to get started! Things may seem a little different, but we have all worked really hard to still make school a safe and welcoming environment for you all.

Please remember that Year 4 learning starts at 9 am and finishes at 3:20 pm, each year group has a different start and finish time to keep us all safe. Should this change, a letter will be sent out. Every child will have to be brought in and taken home by an adult, they cannot walk to and from school on their own.

AUTUMN 1:

In English, we will be looking at The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman which is a brilliant book that I am sure you will love as much as I do. Throughout the year, we will also be looking at a collection of poems by Michael Rosen, starting off with Don't Put Mustard in the Custard.

In Maths, we will be starting the year thinking about place value, and I'll add more detail about that as we go through the unit so you can support your Pandas learning at home.

In History, we will be looking at Ancient Greece and their way of life. A topic which I cannot wait to delve in deeper with you all.

In Science, we will be starting off with the Animals including Humans topic; looking at the digestive system and our teeth (we already have some great experiments lined up for you!)

In RE, we are thinking about what kind of world Jesus would want.

Our PE day will be Thursdays. Please have your child come into school wearing their PE kit on this day. PE will start on Thursday 17th September. We, unfortunately, won't be swimming during the first half term.

Reading Records need to be handed in on a Friday, and will be returned on a Monday. Reading scheme books will only be changed on a Monday.

Mrs Edwards is our Panda TA and will be with us every morning and Wednesday afternoon.
