Distance Learning for Dolphins
Hello Dolphins!
I hope you are all well and had a wonderful week!
We have spent a lot of time outside again this week, when the weather has allowed us to! We have also enjoyed remembering all our Geography learning, especially the work we did on volcanoes! We have also found maths a little easier this week, which has been a relief all round. How have you found this weeks learning?
We have finished Charlotte's Web too - I won't give away the end, but we all enjoyed it VERY much and are now going to try to watch the film version to see how it compares to the book. How did you get on with the book?
Remember to email me with anything you have been doing and send some work through - we would all love to see it!
Please have a look at the dated tasks below and contact me if you have any questions dolphins@eye.peterborough.sch.uk!
Take care, and stay safe.

What a first week back!!!
We have had a fantastic first week back in Dolphins.
English - we have started our new text The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman. It is a great book, which we have really enjoyed exploring this week. Next week we will move on to look at this book as a writer and think about some of the language used in the book that we could magpie in our own work.
Maths - we are continuing to look at multiplication. It has been getting quite tricky this week, but everyone has done really well! The more we practice our times tables, the easier it will all get, so make sure your child is accessing TTRockstars regularly!!! Next week - long division! The method we are using next week is explained really well in this video:
https://mathsnoproblem.com/en/academy/basics-explained/parent-5-long-division/
R.E. - we started to look at the importance of Pentecost in the Christian calendar.
P.E. - we have now had our first Tennis lesson...watch out Wimbledon!
D.T. - we were thinking about electrical circuits, and safety around electricity.
History - We have started to think about the Romans, with our focus this week being on where Rome is and how Rome was founded.
So you see, we have been so so busy! I can't wait to continue the fun next week!

Happy New Year!
I am so excited to be getting back to our fabulous curriculum after, what I hope has been, a wonderful and refreshing break!
Please find details below of what we are going to be exploring this term in our curriculum newsletter. In addition to this, please note that our PE lessons have now changed to a Monday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their full indoor and outdoor PE kit with them every Monday. We will also be swimming again this term - more details to follow shortly!
I look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning to continue our Year 4 adventure!

We had an absolutely wonderful week last week!
In English, we looked at conjunctions, both co-ordinating and subordinating. Ask your child to sing you the following song... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK2Gyto5gTQ
In Maths, we have continued our work on our multiplication tables, and started to look at our division facts too. Please keep up the playing on TT Rockstars! We have a new Rockstars display on our walls - I'll post a pic of that next week!
We continued looking at sound in science, and thought about how sound changes the further away you get - with some lovely performances by Peter and Austin, demonstrating how sound is made on different instruments.
We continued to swim in PE.
In C4L we thought about Anti-Bullying, with it being Anti-Bullying Week.
In RE we thought about our identities, in our special Christian Identity afternoon.
In Art, we created a painting, one square at a time...pictures to follow soon!
Keep your eyes on this page to see more updates! In the meantime, have a look at our pics below!

First of all, my apologies! It has been a while since I posted anything! We have, of course, been incredibly busy, so I will give a brief summary and some pictures of what we have been up to!
Most important news, is that there is a new Times Table Rockstars challenge launching! It begins tomorrow at 7.30 and ends next Saturday at 7.30. The aim of the game is to earn as many points as possible! The more points, the more chances of winning a certificate (if you are one of the top three challengers in the class), a small prize (if we are the winning class in the school) or a bigger prize (if we are the winning school nationwide!!!). Only points earned between 7.30 am and 7.30 pm will count towards the competition (so no playing all night!!!). Please encourage your Dolphin to play as much as possible! All points count and we would LOVE to win the class prize!!!
Also, don't forget we are swimming on Tuesday again! Last one this week (but I am hoping to book some more slots in the pool...watch this space!).
Thanks!

We have had some more fabulous fun in Dolphins this week!
Maths - Monday saw us start to think about subtraction in Maths, which lead to some fairly tricky maths questions involving renaming later on in the week! Not sure what I'm talking about?! As your Dolphin how to complete the following:
2 6 5 7
- 1 2 4 8
I'll pop the answer further down this page!
English - we have started to think about poetry, concentrating our thoughts this week on simile and syllables. Have a look on here next week to find out how our writing goes!
Science - we have continued to think about our digestive system and we wrote up our investigation from last week.
RE - in RE we thought about how Jesus' messages are carried out today, having a look at the Christian Aid website and designing a poster showing what they do.
History - in History we looked at Alexander the Great and is conquests.
PE - we continued looking at balances in gymnastics
C4L - we thought about our rights and responsibilities.
Music - we finished our music unit by improvising to Mamma Mia
Take a look at our pictures below!

We have just had another super week in Dolphins class! Just because the weather has been miserable, doesn't mean we have been - far from it!!!
English - in English, we have continued our look at Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and at persuasive brochures. We have looked at The requirements of persuasive texts and thought a little about how they are written, and how we can mirror this in our own versions.
Maths - we have continued to look at place value, with the emphasis being on rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. This has been a real challenge, but we have managed to get there and we are now nearly ready to move on to addition next.
Science - we have continued to look at animals, including humans, this week focussing on our teeth, and the names of the different types of teeth we have.
RE - in RE we thought a lot about the kind of world Jesus would want us to live in and wrote poems about Jesus being our friend and the qualities he has.
French - in French we have continued to learn greetings and extending this to be able to ask someone how they are and respond to this.
C4L - we have started to think about diversity and how important it is - look below at us showing acceptance of each other and us celebrating diversity in our classroom.
History - we have thought about what the ancient Greeks have done that we still use/are aware of today. DId you know the first marathon was run in ancient Greece ?! Your Dolphin should be able to give you a little background of the story!
Have a look below at us in action and we can't wait to tell you about what we get up to next week!

Hi parents!
I hope you are all well and are settling into the new term well.
I just wanted to touch base with you all and ensure you are looking at times tables with your child regularly. These are so important and it is essential we get them nailed asap! It doesn't have to be a big thing, just a quick quiz in the car, reciting them from the front of your homework book or even putting on one of the songs we use in class for your child to sing along to. It all helps!
Of course, please also ensure your child is playing TTRockstars regularly too.
Here are the songs we are using:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzVyBQ5uTbo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ4ooLN7Bmo
There are also plenty others, so have a look around and see if there is a better one for your child!
Thanks!

We started to look at our new English text today, by getting to sample some chocolate! We imagined we were Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and thought about how amazing chocolate would taste if you only got one bar a year!
We then created some freeze frame family photos, including the characters who live in Charlie's house with him - Grandpa Joe, Grandma Josephine, Grandpa George, Grandma Georgina, Mr and Mrs Bucket and Charlie himself. Can you work out who is who in our pictures?!
We then used instruments, our bodies and even chairs to create a soundscape of what Charlie's house might sound like as 'freezing cold drafts' blow around the house.
WOW Day
On Friday 6th September, we held our WOW day for our new history topic of Ancient Greece. We had a wonderful, creative day! First, we made some Greek headdresses, which were dry and ready for us to wear in the afternoon. Following this, we researched our new table names! We discovered that they are all names of characters from Greek myths. So we researched the myths, both in books and on line. We then wrote fact files about our characters. The characters are Icarus, Midas, Persephone, Pandora, Orpheus, Theseus and Heracles. In the afternoon, we created some beautiful stained glass Greek vases to decorate our windows! Have a look at the pictures of our work!

Hello Dolphins!
I am so excited for the start of this year and I'm sure you all are too! We have some wonderful things planned, so there is a lot to look forward to!
In English we will be looking at Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our focus text - which is one of my favourites!
In Maths, we will be starting the year thinking about place value, and I'll add more detail about that as we go through the unit so you can support your Dolphins learning at home.
In History, we will be looking at Ancient Greece (and having a WOW day for this on Friday!).
In RE we are thinking about what kind of world Jesus would want.
Our PE day will be Tuesdays, so please make sure your child has their PE kit with them on Tuesdays.
If you have any questions, queries or worries, please don't hesitate to speak to me.
Thanks, and see you on Thursday!
Mrs Shields
