Giraffes - Year 5
Summer 2
Dear parents/carers,
Some reminders and updates for Summer 2:
- PE-Wednesday
The whole of Year 5 will do PE on a Wednesday this half term- this will be mainly outdoors so children will need to bring a full outdoor PE kit with them to change into at school. PE kit should no longer be worn to school.
Changes to swimming/ forest school days
- Every Tuesday for the second half term, Zebras will be doing Forest School and Giraffes will be swimming. Please make sure children bring a spare pair of shoes for forest school as they are not able to take part without these. Children also need to make sure their arms and legs are covered on forest school days.
Home learning
- Please make sure your child reads regularly and brings their reading record in to be checked weekly on a Monday.
- Weekly spellings will be sent home, with quick quizzes on a Monday.
- Please make sure your child accesses Times Table Rockstars and Spelling Shed. They are great fun and a fantastic way to learn.
- All children are expected to complete 3 goals on Complete Maths Tutor each week, logins for this have been sent home.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, either at the beginning or end of the school day and keep an eye on our class pages for updates on our learning.

05.07.22- Sports day!!
17.06.22- Check out our amazing light operated book spines! We worked really hard to apply both our DT and art skills to create a book spine for our favourite book that illuminated using a series circuit!

Complete Maths Tutor
Last week, Giraffes really impressed Miss Canham and Mrs Edwards by completing a massive 133 goals in total on Complete Maths tutor! Keep the amazing work up, Giraffes!! :)

Christmas Video
Our Christmas video is now LIVE!! You can find it on the video resource centre which you can access from the pupils' area of the website.
11.11.21- Q and A with our mountain climbing experts!
08.11.21- We had the best day ever at the Space Centre! We learnt so much about the Solar System and all of the planets and had lots of fun exploring all of the different artefacts.
03.02.11- In English today, we looked at the film trailer for the film Hugo Cabret and discussed the different camera angles used and why these have been used. Have a look at our class padlet to see what we got up to.

18.10.21- Well done to Willow, the winner of the thankfulness award in Giraffes. Willow truly deserves this award and is a real role model for thankfulness.
12.10.21- We had a great discussion about gender stereotypes in PSHE, which started with an activity to draw a builder and a dancer- it was very interesting to see the outcomes of this! At home, ask us about the jobs that men and women weren’t allowed to do in previous years. Some of us were very surprised and angry about this!
07.10.21- Poppy has put so much effort into her Science learning that she has even made a model ( to scale ) of the solar system. Gold star Poppy!
06.10.21- An afternoon at Forest School!
06.10.21- We wrote some poems based on our collective worship from yesterday.
04.10.21- We were very lucky today as we had a fantastic poet in to teach us lots about poetry. Matt worked with us to help us create our own poem all about Space!

20/09/2021 RE - we were very lucky to have Mr Hurst come in and answer our questions about God being holy and loving
22/09/21 Today, we had an absolute blast in forest school! We were making conkers, creating pictures, starting bands and making soup in the homemade soup kitchen.
