Welcome back Zebras! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and I am looking forward to seeing you all again on Monday 8th January.
As writers this half term we are focusing our learning on the book ‘Arthur and The Golden Rope’. We will be writing our own myths based on this book.
As mathematicians this half term, we will be developing our multiplication and division skills and applying this knowledge to word problems. We will also be looking at statistics as well as area and perimeter.
This half term, PE will continue to take place on a Tuesday and children will need a full PE kit consisting of a white top, black/navy bottoms and trainers. Regarding forest school and swimming, all children were given a letter at the end of last half term stating which one they would be taking part in every Monday (starting on the 8th January).
Today, we learnt all about what christingles represent and how they link to hope. We then completed a sheet, showing how they link to our lives.
Art - Installation Art
Continuing with our art topic, the children made installation art inside a box. They used a range of textures and painting techniques to create their own room. Then, using the lego figures, photos were taken to make it look like a large room.
English - The Lost Happy Endings
In English, the children created character profiles of either Jub or the Witch to help understand their character.
Art - Installation Art
The children have bee looking at sculpture and 3D art this half term. They created their own installation art sculpture in the classroom using the chairs and tables.
French - The days of the week
In French, the children have been learning to say and write the date. To help, they first learnt the days of the week. The children loved learning a very catchy song. Please take a look at their great singing and crazy moves!
Art - Autumn 2
As part of our art topic this half term, please can the children start bringing in some large cardboard boxes (shoe-box size and bigger). We will need some ready for next Friday (10th November), though children can continue to bring these in after this date as we will still need more.
English - The Lost Happy Endings
We have started looking at our new text in English - The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy. We looked at the front cover and read the blurb then created our own book trailer using prediction questions.
Forest School Fun!
We had a great time during our first forest school session this year - we may have got a little muddy!
Forest School and Swimming will be on Mondays. Zebras will be going to Forest School this half term - please make sure children bring a change of shoes, such as wellies. Children may also wish to bring old clothes that you don't mind getting muddy.
PE will be on Tuesdays- please ensure your child comes to school with their full PE kit.
Poem about Harvest
We created our own poem about Harvest for our church service and performed it in front of the school. We even added in some actions!
Science - National Space Centre Trip
We had so much fun at the National Space Centre and sat in the planetarium show and learnt lots about space travel throughout the day.
History - Baghdad
As part of our History topic looking at early Islamic civilisations, we looked at how advanced Baghdad was compared to London in around 1000 BC. The children created videos explaining the differences.
Science - Sun, Earth and Moon
Zebras have been loving our space topic in Science. After learning about some of the celestial bodies in our solar system, the children used Seesaw to create pictures and facts.
Our first few weeks in Year 5...
