Koalas - Year 2

Spring 1

 

Welcome back after the Christmas holidays! We are going to be looking at 'Mog the Forgetful Cat' in English. In Science, we are going to look at living things and life cycles. We are also finding out all about the Great Fire of London in History.

 

Important messages:

Please can you encourage your child to play on Numbots and Spelling Shed. Also, please can you make sure that you are reading 5 times a week with your child. Reading records will be checked every Monday.

 

I will be outside to greet the children each morning from 8.30am, the doors will close at 8.40am and our first lesson will start at 8.45am.

 

PE will take place on a Thursday. For PE, children will need to bring an outdoor PE kit which consists of a plain white t-shirt and black or navy bottoms with trainers.

 

Koalas class will be going to Forest School every Friday afternoon. Please make sure children have a warm coat, long trousers and a change of shoes (wellies are perfect!)

Miss Rimes

DT - 19th December 

 

This term, he have been looking at a healthy and balanced diet. For out healthy snack, we made our own cereal bars using porridge, currents and corn flakes. 

Church - 16th December

 

Koalas enjoyed their trip to St Matthews Church this Friday to sing lots of Christmas songs for our end of term service. 

RE - 2nd December

 

Today, the children discussed how we can give at Christmas. We talked about giving presents and spending time with their family, along with helping others and donating to charity. The children then created their own video persuading others to give at Christmas time.

Christingles - 1st December

 

Today, the Koalas created their own christingles to celebrate the first day of the advent. 

Maths - 14th November

 

To help us understand the properties of 2D shapes, we used the geoboards. Using the elastic bands, we could create numerous polygons!

Geography - 2nd November

 

This half term, we will be looking at where our food comes from. We started by trying a range of fruit and vegetables from around the world. 

Science - 31st October

 

We have been looking at different material and their properties. In groups, we were given different materials and had to try to build the strongest bridge out of them.

English - 31st October

 

To start off our new English unit, George's Marvellous Medicine, we looked at different containers full of weird and wonderful mixtures. Using the clues, we had to infer what was inside.

Koalas class will be going swimming every Friday afternoon. Please make sure children have a full swimming kit (swimming costume/trucks, swimming hat and a towel).

Miss Rimes

RE - 7th October

 

Over the last two weeks, the children have been learning all about the importance of the Qu'ran and how Muslims treat it with care and respect. To showcase their learning, they used Adobe Express to create short videos.

National Poetry Day - 6th October 

 

To celebrate National Poetry Day, Koalas created their own class poem based off 'Dreamer' by Brian Moses.

English - 26th September

 

Continuing with Not Now, Bernard; the children watched a news report about how poor Bernard had been eaten by the terrifying monster! Later this week, the children will be making their own news report. To watch the report, click the link below:

Forest School - 23rd September

 

we had another great session at Forest School this week! We enjoyed collecting conkers, making jewellery and some of us got incredibly high up some of the trees!

English - 20th September

 

We have been looking at Not Now, Bernard in our English lessons. Based on this story, we performed at repetition poem.

Forest School - 9th September

 

We eagerly welcomed back forest school this week! We played on the zip-wire, enjoyed the swings and painted some beautiful jars!
