Our Vision for Spelling
At Eye CE Primary School we believe that children should be provided with the opportunities and experiences to develop the skills and knowledge that they require to become proficient in spelling a wide range of words that they encounter on a daily basis and in their learning across the curriculum. We aim to provide children with the skills they require to make informed and independent decisions when spelling showing their knowledge and understanding of the English language and its conventions.
At Eye, we use Spelling Shed as our progression of the teaching of spellings and we use Sounds-Write inspired strategies to help us teach individual spellings. Spelling is taught 5 times a week. Children begin to learn spelling rules in Year 2 (phonics is taught prior to this).
Each child has an individual username and password to practise spellings learnt at school, at home. If you are unsure of your child's login details, please contact your class teacher or Miss Reed, who will be happy to help.
