Wombats - Year 4

Some key messages for Summer term:

 

Children will  continue to be set Spelling Shed and TTRS home learning to complete each week. It is also really beneficial for the children to be reading 5 times a week in addition to this. 

 

Swimming and Forest School will continue to take place on Tuesday, Wombats will be going to Forest School for the first half term, and then swimming after half term.  For PE on Wednesday, children will need to bring an outdoor PE kit with them. 

 

In Maths we are going to be learning about decimals, shape, time, money, statistics and position and direction. In English our focus text is Beowulf. In History we will be studying The Anglo-Saxons, The Vikings, and the Norman Conquest, and in Science we will be learning about Plants and Animals. We will be covering lots of other exciting learning in the other subjects also.

World Book Day - 03.03.23

We celebrated by dressing up and also we were very lucky and got to spend some time with author Chris White creating our own poem and illustration. 

Geography/English/Art  - 24.02.23

Today we made our volcanoes erupt. This has been part of our English topic all about Pompeii, our Geography unit learning about volcanoes and we used our painting techniques learnt in Art to create the volcano. 

PE - Roman Dance - 18.01.23

We performed a gladiator entrance and battle.

Some key messages for Spring term:

Swimming and Forest School will continue to take place on Tuesday, we will send information about which your child will be doing when we are back to school. For PE on Wednesday, children will need to bring an indoor PE kit which consists of a plain white t-shirt and black or navy bottoms with trainers.

 

In Maths we are going to be learning about multiplication and division, length and 

perimeter, fractions and decimals. In English our focus text is The Demon Headmaster. In History we will be studying Ancient Rome and Roman Britain, and in Science we will be learning about Electricity. We will be covering lots of other exciting learning in the other subjects also.

Bookman Visit - 21.12.22

Today Bookman visited us with Mr Webster to give us all a Christmas chocolate selection box and to ask us to complete his Christmas Reading Challenge! He is looking forward to seeing all the completed challenges in January! 

DT - 21.12.22

Over the last few weeks we have been creating our own Christmas themed Pop up books. We added levers and pop outs to our drawings. We then shared our stories with some of the children in EYFS, year 1, 2, 3 and 5. 

Christmas Cards - 19.12.22

Today we made 3D Christmas cards to give to our family or friends. 

Church Reading - 16.12.22

Well done to all the children who read in church today, they were brilliant!

Forest School - 13.12.22

A cold afternoon exploring the ice, and playing in the forest. 

Christingle - 01.12.22 

In collective worship today we learned about the Christingle and what each part of the Christingle represents. We then created our own Christingle. 

Computing - 23.11.22

Today we began learning how to create variables in a code on Scratch. 

Art - 14.11.22

We began creating our mixed media collage. This week we created a collage by using our cutting skills to cut out digital images and arrange them on the paper. 

Science - 04.11.22

Today we began our learning about sound. We investigated how vibrations from instruments make the sound travel. We experimented by making sounds louder and quieter and also what happens when we stopped the vibrations with our hands. 

Music - 02.11.22

Today we began learning how to play the only have the glockenspiel. We learned the notes D, E and F. 

Visit from Year 6 - 21.10.22
The year 6 children came and read us their recent story openers they had written in English. We were very impressed with their work. 

History - 17.10.22

We learnt about the politics and government in Ancient Greece, and compared this with the government we have today in Great Britain. We then created our own election speech if we were to be elected as Prime Minister.

National Poetry Day - 06.10.22 & 07.10.22

As part of our celebration of National Poetry, we created our own version of Brian Moses ‘Dreamer’ Poem.

French - 06.10.22 

We recapped some French greetings that we learnt last year and practised them in conversation.

Last week we created our own stamps, we then used them this week to create a pattern.

We were lucky to be visited by Gary Chaundry who is the minister from the Salvation Army church in Peterborough. He spoke to us about how his daily life is shaped by following how Jesus wanted the world to be.

I am really looking forward to a fun-filled year with lots of exciting learning opportunities. 

 

Some key messages for Autumn term:

 

Children will be set Spelling Shed and TTRS home learning to complete each week. It is also really beneficial for the children to be reading 5 times a week in addition to this and we will still be rewarding 5 reads a week with a reading raffle ticket that is entered into a prize draw every half term. 

 

I will be outside to greet the children each morning from 8:30am, the whistle will go at 8:35am and the children will need to line up ready for our first lesson at 8:45am.

 

Swimming and Forest School will take place on Tuesday, we will send information about this on Monday when the children are back in school. For PE on Wednesday, children will need to bring an outdoor PE kit which consists of a plain white t-shirt and black or navy bottoms with trainers.
