Giraffes - Year 5

Key messages for Summer term:

Children will be set Spelling Shed, TTRS and Complete Maths home learning to complete each week. It is also beneficial for the children to be reading 5 times a week in addition to this. Reading records will be checked every Monday and children will receive a reading raffle ticket if they read 5 times a week- this then puts the children in a draw to win a book just for them!

I will be outside to greet the children each morning from 8:30am, the whistle will be blown at 8:35am and our first lesson will begin promptly at 8:45am.

PE and Forest School will continue to take place every Monday. For PE, children will need to bring an outdoor PE kit which consists of a plain white t-shirt and black or navy bottoms with trainers. Giraffes will be doing Forest School and PE and will need to bring appropriate clothing (long sleeves and trousers) and some shoes that can get muddy- children will not be able to do Forest School if they do not have these things.

After half term, any children that have not yet swam this year will be swimming for the remainder of the Summer term.

If your child has been swimming already this year, they will be doing forest school and PE.

Keep a close eye on our class page for regular updates on what we are up to in Giraffes!

02.11.22- English

Inspired by the book 'The Inventions of Hugo Cabret', we recreated some of the wonderful illustrations in the book- thinking carefully about the impact and purpose of these images. There are some examples below of the photos we took and uploaded to our class padlet.

31.10.22- In English today we got to know our focus text ‘The Inventions of Hugo Cabret’ by Brian Selznick. We read the first 2 chapters of the book and summarised what we read by drawing a storyboard. We are really enjoying this book so far!

21.10.22- Harvest Festival

I am so proud of the children and their fantastic performance at the church. As a class, the children worked so hard to put their ideas together to write a wonderful poem that really impressed me! The children were also highly praised by lots of adults in school for the way they supported the younger children when walking to church- Well done Giraffes!!

(Please look on the video resources centre to watch the video of our performance!)

29.09.22- PSHE
Today, we discussed what an attribute is and thought about what positive attributes we could think of in our peers and in ourselves. It was lovely to see how happy the children were when they saw how their peers described them.

28.09.22- Art

We have been working so hard on our art skills to create our fantastic final pieces based on our class poem (if you look closely you can see that the lines have been created out of lines from the poem!)

23.09.22- DT

Today we learnt all about arch bridges and then had a go at creating our own!

15.09.22- We were very fortunate to have Mr Hurst in our classroom today, helping us to answer our key focus question this half term ‘How does God show that he is holy and loving?’

14.09.22- We have been creating our own Adobe Spark videos based on our History learning all about The Tudors! We created our own videos about the War of the Roses and how the Tudors came to power.
