Spring - DT

Our DT project this term is 'Puppets'. We will be learning about the 4 main types of puppets; stick, shadow, hand and marionette.

We have learnt what makes a successful join and have evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of our design and finished product for each puppet we have made.

In Spring 1 we created a stick puppet which we used as a prop to re-tell a traditional story. We also explored how to make various shadow puppets by using our hands, a light source and a flat surface. Ask us to perform a shadow puppet show at home!

Spring 2 will see us design and make hand and marionette puppets.

Spring 1 - PE- Gymnastics

In gymnastics, we have been learning different balances, rolls and shapes.

Spring 1- Science

In Science, we are beginning to learn about living things and their life cycles. We started this topic by going on an evergreen and deciduous tree hunt around the school. Now we are classifying and grouping animals e.g. mammals, fish, amphibians.

Spring Term

Please remember the school day starts at 8:40am and ends at 3:20pm.

Half Term Challenge

At school we regularly participate in retrieval, where we recall and discuss previous learning. Please use the questions and talking points below, to challenge your child's retrieval on some of the learning we have completed this half term.

18/10/2021- Great Fire of London WOW Day

We have had a brilliant day exploring the streets of London in 1666. We have learnt lots of new skills including candle making, weaving, perfumery and sewing!

Music - Week 6

During Autumn 1, we have been learning the song 'Hands, Feet, Heart'. We have also been using the glockenspiels to accompany this song.

Science

Our science topic for this term is:

'Materials and their properties'

We began the topic by going on a material scavenger hunt around the school grounds. We found lots of materials ranging from wood to brick, glass to plastic, metal to rubber. We then spent some time discussing the features these materials have. We know that in science we call a feature a 'property'. Properties include flexibility, smoothness, roughness, hardness, softness and being waterproof.

Bookman set us an important investigation to conduct, he wanted us to test materials that are waterproof as he needs a new rain coat. We had lots of fun carrying out this experiment in class, we used a range of materials including foil, sponge, plastic and wool and splashed them with water. Bookman wanted his coat to be flexible and strong as well as being waterproof. As a class we decided that plastic would be the best material to make Bookman's new coat.

We were curious to know who first invented the concept of a waterproof coat so we carried out some research. We discovered Charles Mackintosh designed the first waterproof coat in 1823 - a very long time ago! Ask us at home what Charles used to make his coat waterproof and what he named this style of coat....

DT

This term we are learning about fruit and vegetables and how to prepare them. We used our senses to explore different fruit and vegetables. We drew, smelt, touched and tasted them. See if you can spot any pictures of when we tried a lemon slice!

Maths - Place Value

We have spent the first few weeks back in school working on place value in maths. We have learned to represent numbers using different concrete materials and recognise the tens and ones that make up these numbers.

Autumn Term - PE - Orienteering

We have been enjoying our Orienteering and Outdoor Adventure topic this half term in PE. We have been using the maps to navigate round our schools orienteering route, as well as playing lots of games to improve our map skills!

Not Now Bernard!

Our focus text in English over the next few weeks is  'Not Now Bernard!' by David McKee. We enjoyed listening to the story on Monday. We split into groups to sort pictures from the story into the correct order. Following this we created a whole class 'Story S'. Miss Hughes and Mrs Sullivan were really impressed with our sequencing skills. Ask us at home to re-tell you the story.

Goldilocks and the three bears

Our first topic in English was Goldilocks and the three bears, this traditional tale provided a great basis for us to write our own story. As a class we decided we didn't want three bears in our story but instead three foxes who lived in a cave within a deep, dark forest. We decided on our main character individually, these ranged from Cinderella to The Hulk!

Miss Hughes thinks there are some budding authors in Lemurs and we demonstrated a lot of creativity in this unit of work.

Welcome to Lemurs!

We are so excited to welcome the new Lemurs class to school on Monday 6th September. Remember we are in our new classroom and if you are unsure where to find us, look out for Miss Hughes. The school day has changed slightly, so we look forward to you arriving at 8:40am, and home time is now 3:20pm.
